Justice for All
The Pledge of Allegiance is recited daily by children all across the country, every morning: I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of American, and to the Republic for which is stands, one Nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
I took to the dictionary to shed light on the critical final phrase: justice for all. Justice includes a concern for peace and a genuine respect for people. It is synonymous with righteous, a word that shows up frequently in the Gospel. Righteous means acting in accord with divine or moral law.
For all means every single person of every race, culture and creed.
What does it mean for us as individuals, as citizens and as people of faith to commit to justice for all every single day?
