"Just be yourself is a very bad advice” he said.
That was here on LinkedIn, a few weeks ago, posted by one of my connections.
He carried on: “You are trying to achieve a goal, but you are failing over and over again. Being yourself hasn't worked out so well, has it? If you are not achieving your goals, you need to change. Don't be yourself. Become the person that is capable of achieving your goals. Because the only person that holds you back, is ‘yourself’”.
Then he invited his network to share their views.?Imagine what I came back with - of course I disagreed ??
For me, being yourself is the only way to be.?
I founded my business on that premise and I live my life by that motto.
The big problem in our society is that we struggle to find our real SELF, as from a young age we’ve been cast in a mould, we’ve been influenced to be like this one, or that one.
If one’s failing to achieve their goals, they’re probably putting too much effort and energy in trying to be someone they’re not, copying blindly ways of behaving that are not natural to them.? It’s a recipe for disaster.

You are more likely to achieve your goals if you are in alignment with your SELF, your purpose, your beliefs and your values.
That’s my personal experience and the clients I’ve helped build their authentic brand seem to thrive with that approach too.
As Kurt Cobain said, ‘Wanting to be someone else is a waste of who you are’. There’s only one ME, there’s only one YOU.
This doesn’t mean that the SELF, and your brand, remain static.?
Being true to yourself and getting out of your comfort zone to achieve your goals are not antinomic concepts. In fact they are intrinsically linked.?
The evolution of the Self requires acceptance of change and putting oneself into question.?
The brands and people I admire the most are those who reinvent themselves whilst staying true their core. This is one of the finest examples I’ve come across recently: https://youtu.be/5muBl3-Rh9Y
