Not just worthy of an Oscar - how does your business handle modern slavery?
Not just worthy of an Oscar - how does your business handle modern slavery?
Slavery isn't just something from the past, its not only something seen in mercenary films about war crimes and exploitation, modern slavery presents a much more startling fact; it is prominent in the U.K, ever present and difficult to spot. No longer are acts of slavery restricted within the bounds of Film Festivals and Oscar winners that grace the big screen but finally, after years of staying in the shadows, is modern slavery finally beginning to hit home to industries within the UK.
Construction being amongst these, it is worth considering the staggering statistics of slavery within this labour heavy industry. Of the approximate 40.3 million people enslaved around the world today, over half – a staggering 24.9 million people – are trapped within the labour industry.
With the Human Trafficking Foundation charity believing that of this number at least 20,000 men, women and children are facing modern acts of slavery within the UK alone, it is difficult to see how such a mammoth act against liberty can be combated.
MSite’s new Right to Work Check can help to combat this. Using automated and face-to-face checks, some nifty QR code technology and a vast integration into other access control products, MSite’s Right to Work Check can help to mitigate the risk of unknown slavery employment.
