Just what is the story of the next decade in TV?
TV is evolving, even what it means to be TV. From the growth of digital broadcast in the 1990s to the introduction of the Internet and high speed broadband in the 2000s, on demand players growing in the 2010s, the TV world today is a very different place with fast moving new entrants large and small, traditional operators fighting back with the power of aggregation, traditional content companies jumping out of the linear airplane into the freefall of the pure on demand direct to consumer plays without a parachute, everything is really happening today. However just where are we heading?
As a broadcaster, what is your next move?
As a pay tv platform, what can you do to differentiate yourself?
As a new entrant OTT platform, how can you grab more than your 15 minutes?
As a content producer, how do you get eyeballs on your content when all the cinemas are closed and streaming is all you have?
As a business of all of these types, where is the money after the move from analogue dollars to digital cents and now to OTT tenths of a cent?
This is a war of sorts.. a war for eyeballs and bums on seats in front of screens large and small. So how about a wargame to look at the trends and the directions and just how the future will develop, to develop the story of the next few years... join the IET Media Network 'Virtual War Game - Internet/OTT giants vs Traditional Pay TV & Broadcast' interactive discussion on Tuesday 20th October at 15:00 UK time (UTC+1). A very timely panel Ian Nock! With the industry undergoing exponential change and disruption, the need to embrace agility and flexibility throughout the entire media pipeline will be critical to continued success. This is where I see SaaS and cloud-agnostic models come to the fore for broadcasters and service providers looking to stay afloat of industry shifts.?
