Just Upgraded to Windows 10...

I just upgraded 2 computers to Windows 10 and the word upgrade seems really inaccurate relative to what an upgrade process usually entailed in the past. Both systems had the exact same experience, that being --- 1) click the button to upgrade, 2) go do something else for about 10 minutes, and 3) come back, log in and go.

Why this justified a post is grounded in the fact that I’ve built my own PCs for about 30 years and have enough gray & receding hair from a 25 year technology career to show that this is far, far, far from what an upgrade of an operating has been. Usually, you worry about a fresh copy, uninstall the old OS, format the drive, back up your data, etc. etc. This time, it was the same as installing an app. Click the button, wait, and you’re done.

First impressions? Slick interface from someone that is coming from Windows 7. There are some changes and things work differently than the Windows of old, but it’s pretty intuitive. Also, it’s FAST. To upgrade to a new OS meant that you went backwards in performance, typically, and hardware companies celebrated the new OS refresh cycle. Here you have the reverse --- that’s progress. There a handful of smaller niceties I’ve seen so far from Windows 10 and am impressed with both the upgrade process and the final product so far. Bravo, Microsoft.

Nice article and I have to agree. Even though I did some "backup" activities myself out of habit I have to admit the process was pretty easy and painless. It took about 20-25 min for me, but felt fast. Everything more or less carried over and performance is very nice. It even corrected a long standing issue I had from Win 7 and my monitor, which was a plus. I'm looking forward to learning more about Win 10 but its already a dramatic improvement from the poor Win 8 OS.

Agreed Shawn - I upgraded two of my home machines and it was crazy-painless, far less painless than I expected from such a process.

Thank you for sharing. I always worry about what will blowup during an upgrade.

Thank you. You've now given me some hope for upgrading one of my family member's desktops from Windows 8. Can't wait to get the download key.
