Just a Thought - On Personal Branding

Have you ever felt like a narcissist building a personal brand.
I know I have because a personal brand is supposed to be all about you, your interest, your hobbies, you , you, you.
Funny that I felt this way even though everyone I followed online and everyone I liked had a personal brand, Logic, Ryan Holiday, Gary Vaynerchuk , Casey Neistat, just to name a few.
I missed the whole point and I feel like many do.
Your personal brand should be your contribution to the world. What makes you, you? What do you want to share? What is your why? Finally the final question that changed everything who do you want to talk to?
These questions above helped me define the goal in the content I made but also why I was doing it in the first place. "My Goal was helping 18–27-year-olds make the mental/physical leap into entrepreneurship/side hustles/ life in the their own hand while making the leap myself.
MY MISSION IS 2 MAKE THE CONTENT I WOULD WANT TO WATCH. This I knew was was my goal on the other hand execution was harder.
How do you make content you want to watch? How do you make stuff that is worth the quality or do you worry more about the message then the execution. Do you worry about money or just about providing value? Do you worry about self image or what you want to share and what do you keep private? How are you coming across?
The amazing thing you're in control. My old goal was make content and put it out.
My new goal everyday set aside time and then just always be making stuff so I can improve but also put out the best stuff everyday. Also make it easy. Tim Ferris says, " What would it be like if it was easy." Building a personal brand shouldn't be an extra burden on the side it should be an extension of your personal life.
Does it have to be every day for you, no. It matters what your goal is. Just know your personal brand is your resume of the future and even if you don't build it someone else does.
I like this quote from Chris Jordan had him on the pod a while back he said, "Creating content and building a personal brand multiples your opportunities faster then anything else you can do because you can be at front of multiple people and not just one on one"
So here's my tips on how to build a personal brand
1. Focus on story - this is what makes you unique stand out and not AI
2. Share your perspective in real time, people connect with stuff if you say this is my opinion at this moment

3. Have a consistent image, if they go to twitter, youtube, instagram, and facebook, as well as linkedin do you look like the same person. Yes there is nuances to the platform in itself but it should look similar.
4. Share the thoughts you would want to share anyway. I share stuff online that I share in person, makes it a lot easier.
5. Decide formats - it doesn't have to be every day this below is mine on linkedin if you have a format it makes it easier. Thats why a weekly podcast works thats why a weekly business update works because you don't have to think of what to make and put out. Also you can schedule it before hand.
mon - business update
tues- podcast
wed - info or an idea from my course
thurs- experimentation - video or carousel
fri- info or an idea from my course
sun - wisdom
6. Make it a win-win-win-win. If my personal brand fails and I don't "blow up" (whatever that means), at least there are four wins: First, I documented my thought process for posterity. Second, I have something to show employers when I graduate, like "Look what I tried to do." Third, I connected with cool people and gained some good friends from my podcast. Fourth, I did something I was uncomfortable with and grew as a communicator and a person.

8 个月So right! A business always involves at least two people. For this reason alone, it makes no sense to emphasise the "I" in personal branding. The question is: What do my customers need? What contribution can I make?

8 个月Oh my gosh the first line is so on point. I've worked with SO many clients who will also mention something like "this makes me feel really full of myself". But you're 100% right in that whether or not you want one, you have a personal brand, so you might as well optimize it for success.
