Should you support a joint venture you don't believe in?
A couple of weeks ago, I met with a business coach who was concerned about harming a successful relationship she had spent years building.
"I am getting great results with this partner, but now they're asking me to promote a program that clashes with the principles I teach to my students. What should I do?".
It's a good question.
Would it do any harm to promote an offer that doesn't resonate with you? After all, your audience may be diverse. There may be individuals in your community who aren't interested in your programs, but they might be interested in what your partner is offering.
Is there any harm in offering your audience alternative options?
Wouldn't it be worthwhile to support this venture in order to secure the long-term relationship?
My answer to this is an unequivocal "No".
No-one wants to lose a JV partner, but your #1 motivation for supporting a partner should always be - "Is this something that will benefit my existing and potential clients?".
The relationship will always be more successful when this is the starting point.
No credible JV partner will take offence if you say to them - "No, this isn't going to be a fit for my community".
Your audience made a decision to subscribe to your email list because of what you stand for. They are expecting you, the expert, to lead them, not follow them.
You may know, like and trust a JV partner. They may be credible. They may be a leading authority.
But that's not enough. You need to believe in what they're teaching.

So remember, if your gut feeling says "this isn't a fit" - don't go ahead.

1 年Interesting question. I would certainly find it very difficult to promote anything that I felt clashed with my values.
