Just Say No.
What's the #1 thing that causes most businesses to fail?
-Is it lack of cashflow?
-Is it bad timing?
-Is it a "mindset" problem?
No.
The problem is that the majority of business owners are NOT hyper-focused.
Some call this "shiny object syndrome" while others call this "Entrepreneur A.D.D.".
At the end of the day, it's all the same - a lost sense of direction.
Warren Buffett says it straight and to the point with this:
"The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything."
Think of it like one of those prescription drug commercials we all see:
If you're suffering from:
?Taking on business or projects for the money.
?Doing tasks just to say you're busy.
?Constantly being your own overworked R&D dept.
?Always saying there's not enough time in the day.
?Having a sense of "lost" in your business.
?Changing up your niche or ideal client every 3 months.
This may lead to [business] death. ?
So, here's what you can do.
#1. Stop.
Take a break. Literally, stop doing what it is you're doing and just take a break. Give your mind a chance to decompress. Mental clarity is key here.
#2. Think.
Write down your core competencies, or the things you absolutely excel at. This will give you a more clear understanding of who you actually need to be serving in your business.
#3. Reboot. It's okay to clean house, fire bad clients, doing a business spring cleaning/fire sale. This will let you take note of the things that are working and not working so you can trim the fat.
#4. Filter.
Now you're in a much better place and you have some idea of who you want to serve, take on as clients, and do business with. So you need to filter out the noise and the B.S. You need to stop saying YES to every little opportunity that jumps in front of you.
Basically, it boils down to:
Stop & think, "Is this someone I need to be working with or is this just something that sounds/looks/may be cool to do."
9 times out of 10, the answer is a big, fat NO!
So remember to Stop, Think, Reboot, and Filter. ?
You'll be in a much better place.
