There Is Just One Thing That Blocks Success!!
This article is about what blocks success. Success is a personal definition so I am going to present key points from a recent webinar where four successful experts panelists talked about their success. Each one had different paths. However they all talked about the major categories of fear that often is defined as pain. Fear is the cause of most pain. They used the word pain. The common theme of how to proceed can be summarized in a few steps:
- Find the pain point.
- Does the person want to fix it?
- When?
- Will what you do help them?
Major Pain Points - All Start With Fear
Financial: Maybe they lost a job, or income has dropped significantly because of lockdowns. There can be many reasons for financial pain. However fear keeps most people from having a plan that will insulates them from financial failure. I am a major advocate of multiple streams of income. I am also a major advocate of balance in life.
Relationships: Most people have several categories of relationships. the most common ones are: personal partner, children, pets, work related, community. At some point most also fear the loss of one or more of those relationships. As I write this there are many communities in the US that are under physical attack. There are many people who are experiencing relationship strain because of not being about to be out and being social. Add to that the current requirement of virtual education. All of these situations and more can be a source of massive fear - fear of what is going to happen? How and when does this end and get better again? If there is significant financial stress, that fuels the fear and defeats confidence. As that happens the spiral of relationship stress accelerates. If finances are secure then a deeper look at cause of relationship stress is needed. There are experts whose business is to help resolve relationship issues.
Health: Many health experts advise 80% of all sickness and disease is linked to stress. If you look at the previous two categories the focus is on cause. Once a health issue surfaces all other issues are now elevated and become increasingly severe. I think of it as a downward spiral. Many people are bombarded with incorrect data about Covid that is intended to cause fear. The media is very successful with that. However if a person studies available data they will find the major causes of sickness, disease and death are far greater then the actual numbers of people dying from Covid. Very recently the CDC released updated numbers on deaths from Covid and they are very low. I am in the business of educating people on what they can do to be healthy. Does The Person Want To Solve The Problem?
As my parents aged I noticed how much time my mother in particular spent focusing on her health issues and medications. I did not have the experience then that I do now except I knew that what you focus on you attract. I since learned the focus on problems is what some people want to do. Yes there are people who do not want to solve their problems out of fear they would have nothing to talk about or at least that is my guess.
Before you can find out if the person wants to solve the problem you need to be clear with them what the problem is. If there are more than one, they need to be prioritized. How do you do that? There is only one way and that is in conversation and more particularly by listening carefully.
When?
Now that you reached agreement they want to solve the problem based on an agreement as to their priority you can address how soon do they want to begin solving the problem. Some may want to start immediately and others not so fast.
