Chicago has become one of the newest dots on Ethiopian Airlines' global flight map. So why is this important to the Greater Charlotte Area? With United Airlines flight 791 early morning 5:45 am to Chicago arriving at 6:48 am makes a convenient 3 hour connection time for Ethiopian Airlines Flight 511 Chicago to Addis Ababa

 The carrier is set to begin flying from O’Hare International Airport on Monday, June 11, offering three flights a week ( Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday ) departing at 9:55 am to its hub, Ethiopia’s capital of Addis Ababa.

The flight from Chicago is scheduled for 13 hours, 45 minutes and will be the only non-stop service connecting Chicago to Africa. The return Chicago-bound flight From Addis Ababa Departs every Tuesday Thursday and Sunday at 10:15 pm stops in Dublin (Crew Change) on its way to a 7:15 Am arrival into Chicago making from many connection options back to Charlotte. Ethiopian will use Boeing 787-8 “Dreamliners” for the flights.

Ethiopian says Chicago customers will be able to connect via Addis Ababa to more than 55 destinations across Africa.

Chicago O’Hare will become the fourth U.S. destination for Ethiopian, which has flown to the U.S. since 1998. Its other U.S. gateways are Newark Liberty, Los Angeles, and Washington Dulles.

"We will be filling a critical air connectivity vacuum as our flights will be the only direct service between Chicago and Africa," Ethiopian CEO Tewolde Gebremariam says "Chicago is the main hub of our Star Alliance partner, United Airlines, and the flight will be operated together with United to avail the best product for travelers from all over the U.S. connecting to more than 55 destinations in Africa."

West Bound, Passengers from the entire continent of Africa will connect to Chicago and beyond through our Addis Ababa hub in the late evenings; likewise, Eastbound travelers from the USA will also connect to all over Africa in the morning through Addis. In both cases, the connectivity is designed in such a way that we are able to avail one of the shortest total travel times for our customers.

Regarding the launch of the service, Mr. Tewolde GebreMariam, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, remarked: “Chicago will be our 4th destination in the U.S. and our 7th in the Americas. It is the third biggest city in the U.S. and one of the most important global aviation hubs. We will be filling a critical air connectivity vacuum as our flights will be the only direct service between Chicago and Africa.

The route will be operated with a Boeing 787, one of the most technologically advanced aircraft in the carrier’s fleet family, featuring up-to-date amenities with redefined travel experiences.on a 270-seat Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with 24 angle-flat seats in its Cloud Nine-branded business class and 246 seats in the economy cabin. Ethiopian is the pioneer African flag carrier starting service to the Americas’ in 1998.
