Just Musing

We have our opinions
Too much Television, violence
In the movies, too much sex -
debauchery in day-to-day soap operas.
The police want more surveillance
More boots on the streets
The educationists want more millions
For schools. The church want
More Christ pumped into the hearts.
Some say in another hundred years
If we are still here, genetically
Modified criminals would make
Our world inhabitable
Isaiah told them in Israel
They wouldn’t believe him till
They sang the Lord’s song in Babylon
Slaves for seventy years
Ezra and his fifty thousand took
Their treacherous journey back home
The excitement of freedom was
Hysteric, tears and laughter
Joy and zeal laid the temple stones
A foundation for the worship
Of the One True God, but soon
Everyman went his way, to build,
To plant his own, to make a living
and loose life; then they left the God
Who delivered from Babylon
To care for His house, bleak and lonely
The shame of neglect, a foundation
In the sight of all, a testimony
Of failed zeal and compound greed
Then came Haggai with the voice
Of reason, the will of God.
Let Haggai arise today I pray
I have seen too often the mercy
Of God, when humans stood and wept
In lonely places, when sky is bleak
And tears drop desolately
I have seen the smile of God
In man’s despondent state often
To know how special humans are!
He seeks you still
His anger endures for the night
But favour breaks forth with dawn
Only in Him is life that lights up
Only He is love that builds up.
