Not Just About Losing Weight: A Journey to a Healthy Body and Mind
For the past 10 years, I had been struggling with emotional eating. Suppressing my emotional ups and downs with food seemed like a quick fix in the short term but left me feeling even more drained in the long run. 8 months ago, I decided to break this cycle and sought professional support from an expert. However, this wasn’t just another “diet” phase. Together with my dietitian, I realized that I needed to truly learn how to eat.?
This first month became a transformative learning experience that completely reshaped my eating habits. I didn’t want to be someone who just said, “Stop eating bread, problem solved!” Instead, I dived into understanding how metabolism works, why our bodies need at least 2 liters of water daily, and how digestion actually happens.?
Educating myself was the most crucial part of this process. Rather than blindly following a dietitian’s list, I grasped the logic behind it and started building a more conscious relationship with my body.
Of course, learning to eat wasn’t purely a physical journey—it required a significant psychological effort too. I had to learn to cope with emotional hunger. I came to realize that turning to food for comfort during emotional swings wasn’t a real solution. Instead, I began confronting my emotions and managing them. There were tough moments during this journey, and there still are. But most importantly, I learned to be patient and kind to myself.?

At the end of these six months, I can confidently say, “I did it.” I lost 17 kilograms—20% of my body weight. Yet, this weight loss is more than just a physical achievement for me. Thanks to shedding these 17 kilos, I can breathe, walk, and run more easily. The hormonal imbalances caused by excess weight have also improved. But this journey was never just about losing weight; it was about rediscovering myself and building a healthy relationship with my body.?
This process is ongoing. My struggle with emotional eating isn’t completely over, but it’s become much more manageable. Above all, I’ve learned to love myself and respect my body.? Losing weight or changing our body shape can be a journey, but the most important part of that journey is making peace with ourselves.?
Love yourself, love your body, and no matter what, never give up on the fight!?
