Just Getting Started
Armour Day 2022

Just Getting Started

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. The team and I have been busy at Under Armour and within the Baltimore community, and I wanted to share some updates on what we’ve been working on, and why I am so excited for what’s next.

?Under Armour

Last month, we held our first Armour Day since 2019, and it was great to have the team together again at the home of our beloved hometown team, the Baltimore Ravens. We created this tradition in 2004 as a dedicated day to celebrate the UA brand, recognize our teammates and give back to our communities.

Earlier this year we welcomed leadership changes at UA, with Colin Browne stepping up as the interim President and CEO. Colin and I have worked closely together for more than five years and I have full confidence in Colin and the UA team to help lead us to the next phase of growth while our CEO search is underway.

?Baltimore

Throughout my tenure, the city of Baltimore has been the primary focus of UA’s philanthropy, which I was proud to drive, alongside my own charitable contributions. Some of my most rewarding personal giving over the past 15 years has directly supported organizations offering opportunities for the city’s youth – with more than $25 million to Baltimore organizations, including:

  • An East Baltimore community center, the UA House on Fayette, that operates a school and offers programming like workforce development and a neighborhood kitchen
  • CollegeBound to provide advisors and funding to students in 14 Baltimore public high schools so they can attend and complete college
  • ?The Archdiocese of Baltimore Catholic Schools to provide need-based scholarships for 100 elementary and high school students to attend high-quality community schools in their own neighborhoods

University of Maryland & St. John’s College High School

I’ve also been fortunate enough to give back to my alma maters – both the University of Maryland, in part to support Jones-Hill House, a football performance center/sports medicine facility, and the Academy of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and to St. John’s College High School where they built a state-of-the-art athletics facilities, and a created a new academic program that focuses on entrepreneurship.

Port Covington

In Port Covington, our 235-acre mixed-use waterfront development project in Baltimore, we have envisioned a first-of-its-kind impact-driven community: a place that delivers as much to its people as the people do for the place. I want to be a part of that in a real, hands-on way.

I?am pleased that Under Armour will be among the first occupants of Port Covington when the global headquarters moves there in 2024.?I believe deeply in the potential for Baltimore to once again be a thriving, vibrant, dynamic port city.?

I have no doubt this city will surprise us all. It is my sincere hope that, together, we can put in the work to move this great community forward.?

Our work will deliver an unprecedented set of community benefits focused on helping residents, including:

  • $19 million already funded to support Baltimore City and South Baltimore communities
  • $110 million+ committed in contracts to minority- and women-owned enterprise firms, exceeding its initial goals with 35% participation for MBEs and 12% for WBEs
  • 500 Youthworks positions have been funded to support summer jobs for Baltimore City youth
  • 20% of residential units will be designated as affordable housing

Last week, Sagamore Ventures, alongside the development team at Port Covington, led the local funding for Conscious Venture Partners’ $50 million fund to invest in Baltimore minority- and women-owned business enterprises. We are committed to uplifting Baltimore’s local businesses, ensuring our economy is supported by and works for our community. I am grateful to the Conscious Ventures team for the opportunity to support Baltimore.

Sagamore Ventures

Finally, as the Founder of Sagamore Ventures, I look forward to expanding existing ventures, including Sagamore Spirit and The Sagamore Pendry Baltimore hotel, while looking for new, strategic initiatives. It is my sincere hope that our work will benefit the areas where UA has helped me make significant inroads: this city, access and equity in sports, and entrepreneurship education.

I will continue to share more about the work we are doing across Baltimore and invite you to join us on this journey. #JustGettingStarted
