We don't like anyone thinking, "I'm just a driver". Driving is a respectable, skilled profession, and one you have every right to be proud of!
First of all our apologies on behalf of anyone in the industry who ever conveyed to you that you were "just" anything, particularly based on your chosen occupation. Your value as a person is not determined by your job title and you are a person of worth, whether a driver or a Vice President.
You're not "just" a driver. Our drivers contributions are critical and valued as much as any other team member. We've always cared and are committed to treating our employees with the respect and dignity they deserve. That means a very competitive wage, full benefits, RRSP matching, a supportive team that puts your safety first, and late-model equipment to operate.
Here are a few reasons why you are not "just" a driver to us.
- A pickup and delivery driver has one of the most customer facing jobs in transportation. Drivers are interacting with shipper/receivers, warehouse management, small business owners, freight decision makers, every single day. You are very much the face of the company and the in-person representative of the organization. That carries a lot of significance and value. A lot hangs on a driver's overall attitude and customer service skill set when interacting with customers. Customer relationship management is a part of a drivers job.
- The profession chosen is critical to the economy. Pretty much everything moves via truck. The "If you bought it, a truck brought it" idea. Drivers are putting food on tables - not only for their family via a wage, but ours, literally! A truck driver is an essential service provider. Thank you for your service!
- It is a significant responsibility to drive a freight truck. The drivers personal safety and the safety of the general public is involved. There is trust and accountability involved in safely operating heavy equipment. We acknowledge drivers to be skilled professionals.
- Drivers have an appreciated range of skills they employ each day on the job. Real time decision making, problem solving, customer service, load securement, paperwork completion, handheld usage, adherence to local bylaws, wearing of PPE, offering suggestions to customers around packaging and loading. Oh, and they drive semi trucks and trailers too!
Here at Bandstra Transportation we want drivers to come work for us, not just for business continuity reasons - but because we want them to experience the difference that Bandstra offers. Our drivers feel appreciated, are communicated well with, treated fairly and supported. You will never be treated like "just a driver" here!
