Just Do It.

Just Do It.

Wear Your Mask. Wash Your Hands. Keep Your Distance.

You know, I really hate wearing a mask. I don’t like how close it gets to my eyes, I don’t like the steam that makes my face feel like it’s melting, it smooshes my hair, it makes my nose itch, and my ears stick out like taxicab doors.

But you know what?

I’m going to wear one anyway. Why? Because I want to protect my family, my friends, my colleagues and myself. I wear it so that businesses can continue to stay open to serve their customers and keep their staff employed. I wear it because it’s the right thing to do.

I miss going out to dinner. Not that I can’t right now but it’s not the easy-breezy adventure it used to be. Take out just isn’t the same as eating from real plates and then having someone else wash them. I know I can get take out but some food items just don’t do well in transit – like French fries for instance. By the time you get home and open that Styrofoam container they’re pretty gross.

But you know what?

I’m going to keep ordering take-out so that I can enjoy my favorite restaurants and do my part to help keep them afloat during this time. (I’m just not going to order French fries. Ick.) I may even try a socially distant dinner outside when the temperature doesn’t feel like it should be measured in kelvin.

While we’re at it…..you know what else I’m tired of?

Constantly washing my hands and rubbing [what sure feels like] a gallon of hand sanitizer on them in between washes. Don’t get me wrong – I always (at a minimum) have thoroughly washed my hands post restroom and during food handling (because anything less is just…well…yuck) but the additional washing is really starting to get on my nerves.

But you know what?

I’m going to do it anyway. Even though it means buying hand lotion by the crate. Why? Same reason I’m wearing a mask. Because I care about my family, friends, colleagues, etc.

Most of all, I’m doing all this stuff because I want this to be over. And it won’t be over unless we all work together and do the stuff that we don’t want to do but need to do.

Think of it like your seatbelt. Nobody likes the wrinkled up fabric, the friction across your neck or the restrictive feeling from the seatbelt, but it sure beats taking a flight through your windshield if you’re in an accident.

So strap on those masks, keep your distance, and sanitize those hands. The only way we’re getting through this is together.
