Just Before Xmas in Madeira

So that's that then! Summer is now officially over and wether we love or loathe Xmas it is on it's way in just a short 3 months, so what to do at this very Merry Special time of the year in Madeira?

I am sure you all know that we are known for the amazing fireworks we have on the 31st December, we are in fact in the World Guiness Book of Records as one of the best places in the world to see out the year, I would definitely recommend it, my first New Years here, I have to admit was just amazing, I was flabbergasted as the sky's lit up with color, everyone dresses up here for New Years, and all around the Island people party until dawn.

But if you want to visit Madeira at this very special time of the year, I would suggest coming just before Christmas, the lights come on around the 1st of December and the streets come alive with live music, street food, dancing, visit our Christmas market with regional crafts and Madeira Embroidery and visit our gigantic nativity scene in the centre of Funchal, all around the island there is beautiful decorations to see and every village is in Xmas mode. We have a great tradition here on the run up to Xmas, where we go to mass at 5 am in the morning, they call it the childbirth mass, everyone takes their own drink and playing instruments and it's a true party in itself! Don't forget to taste our drink called Ginja! it's typical at this time of year, strong but very very tasty together with some honey and ginger biscuits, it goes down a treat.

Don't forget that Madeira can also be a great place to buy some gifts, you can find some great bargains and prices here are much cheaper than those at home, maybe a nice bottle of Madeira m'dear could make a perfect gift.

I love Madeira at this time of year! I guarantee that you will too, the lights, the food, the drinks, the atmosphere oh yes and the weather, you won't be cold here as usually we have 18oC temperatures at this time.

So wait no more book your holiday and visit us this Xmas time, I have fantastic rates and the Muthu Raga Madeira is just a 5 minute taxi to Funchal, I will be happy to tell you where the fun is at.
