JUST BECAUSE YOUR CLIENT IS DRINKING, DOESN’T MEAN YOU SHOULD

Five Reasons Why Consuming Alcohol During an Event is a Big No-No

The holidays are a time of celebration and at some events you may have to plan, the alcohol will be merrily flowing. Holiday cocktails can be tasty and tempting, however, just because your client is drinking (or gives you the ok to drink), doesn’t mean that you should. To follow are five reasons why you should avoid alcohol during an event.

#1 – KEEP IT CLASSY

As an event planner, you want to always project an air of class and professionalism. There is absolutely nothing classy or professional about being drunk.

#2 – ALCOHOL ATTACKS THE NERVOUS SYSTEM

When you consume alcohol, it is immediately absorbed into your bloodstream and distributed throughout your body. One of the first negative effects of alcohol is that is attacks your nervous system causing you to have difficulty speaking, walking, or any other acts of coordination.

#3 – SAY “GOODNIGHT” TO YOUR BRAIN

Alcohol adversely affects the brain with even the smallest of cocktails. It impairs your judgement and you may just end up saying something to that sassy vendor that you wished you hadn’t later. Or you may do something even more regrettable.

This goes hand-in-hand with how alcohol affects your judgement. It can cause you to make decisions that are irrational.

#4 – ALERT NO MORE

Alcohol lowers your inhibitions causing you to be less alert. This could result in you overlooking a problem that could land you into some pretty hot water later.

#5 – GREEN-FACED

One of the most embarrassing effects of alcohol is the potential to get sick. Imagine your reputation flushing down the toilet right along with that regurgitated cocktail. That should sober you up a bit!

Holiday parties or other events where alcohol is present are tons of fun, but that doesn’t mean you have to drink to have a good time and conduct business. Remember YOU are the Event Planner and your client is watching you every step of the way. Staying away from the alcohol is a good business practice that can save you embarrassment, money, and clients.

Do you think it’s a good idea to drink at events? If so, why?
