Junior Level IR roles in PE firms
We have frequent conversations with both candidates and firms about the various levels of Investor Relation roles within the private equity/investment industry. Given the widespread interest, I thought it would be helpful to shed some light on junior-level positions in this area.
Generally, junior hires in IR roles provide support to Partners/C-suite Executives, senior members of the investment team, or senior members within the IR team itself. Most of their main responsibilities focus on the project management side of IR. These types of responsibilities could include managing the CRM, updating client lists, preparing pitch decks and marketing materials, helping with fund reporting, supporting the operations team with portfolio valuations, as well as many different types of communication with current and prospective LPs.
Additionally, there could be some exposure to the fundraising or coverage side of IR, which could include set up and involvement in pitch meetings, traveling to roadshows, face to face interaction with current and prospective LPs. There could be some analysis on firm’s IR strategy as a whole, and specifically to help sell their firm to investors.?
Titles for these roles usually range from Analyst to Associate of “Investor Relations”, but depending on what they specialize in could be “Capital Formation”, “Investor or Client Services” as well as “Marketing and Communications”. The background of these professionals can vary greatly - from prior experience in investment banking, portfolio management, wealth management or even investor relations in other industries, as well as directly from an operations or administrative group.
We are always eager to connect with candidates currently in IR roles and any PE firms contemplating expanding their team to focus on IR. Don't hesitate to reach out to!
