Jungle and MO4 have teamed up to address mechanical and weather downtime in the offshore industry

The offshore sector loses millions annually due to unnecessary downtime. Therefore, reducing downtime by just a few percentage points can save the industry a substantial amount of money. Accumulated downtime translates into a significant amount of wasted time that you would prefer to invest in productive work, contributing value to the industry.

Offshore downtime comprises two components: mechanical downtime and weather downtime. Mechanical downtime occurs when a vessel cannot operate due to maintenance, whether planned or unplanned. On the other hand, weather downtime refers to days when the vessel is operational, but weather conditions prevent any work from being carried out. Jungle and MO4 have collaborated to leverage their technologies in a joint project to enhance efficiency and minimize both aspects of downtime in offshore operations.

So, how do these companies work?

?

MO4 specializes in reducing weather downtime. We believe that current offshore operations are planned using incorrect metrics. The decision to work or not is typically narrowed down to a wave height limit. However, real-life scenarios are more complex than this limit alone. To address this, MO4 uses a digital solution that collects all relevant parameters that affect operability. This is combined with a digital twin of the vessel, accounting for factors like hull shape and onboard components such as gangways, DP capability, cranes, and anti-rolling tanks.

Combining rich data with the digital twin results in motion forecasts for the vessel. These forecasts enable companies to plan offshore operations more efficiently compared to when they are based solely on significant wave height and wave period, thereby minimizing downtime.

However, weather downtime is just one piece of the puzzle in minimizing offshore downtime. Mechanical downtime also plays a significant role, and that's where Jungle comes in. Jungle is a software company specializing in minimizing mechanical downtime. Vessel sensors pick up the slightest changes in temperature, pressure, flow, or other metrics. AI models analyze this data to detect failures in advance, providing vessel owners with time to plan maintenance or prevent small defects from escalating into larger issues. Jungle's AI models are trained to detect failures they haven't encountered before, further enhancing their effectiveness in reducing downtime.

Joining Forces

?

Downtime poses a significant challenge in the offshore industry. The ambitions of the industry are extremely high, especially in the offshore wind sector. Consequently, reducing downtime is no longer a luxury, but a necessity.

Jungle and MO4 have presented a solution to address part of this problem. Therefore, a collaboration between our companies seems only logical. The project's goal is to increase our impact on the offshore industry by simultaneously reducing mechanical and weather downtime. Depending on the vessel type, you can expect up to 20 extra work days per year due to less weather downtime, and 7-10 additional days of technical uptime.

By installing our software on vessels, we aim to provide a more comprehensive solution to one of the major problems facing the offshore industry today. If you're curious about our companies or products, reach out to us.

Great to see this one in the spotlight - another excellent output and innovation from when we originally received the challenge from Equinor in 2019 to have 'a digital twin' in built to the SOV's we offered from North Star. Its been a great journey to assemble the plan, the partners and the delivery - and then role out across the fleet, such is the value it brings.
