June's been a busy month at Carbon13 - most importantly we've opened applications for the next cohorts of our Venture Builder - please share with any connections you know who want to get building climate solutions.

And there's a chance to see the Venture Builder in action on the 14th and 25th July as our current Cohort 5 ventures pitch their solutions in public for the very first time. You can register for the livestream right here.

Applications for our next cohort starting on the?7th November 2023?in Cambridge are open now.?If you are based in Europe, you can also apply to Cohort 2 starting in Berlin in?early 2024.?If you apply by the?12th of July,?you'll be assessed and interviewed by early August, ahead of applicants who apply after the 12th July.

What?

Cohort 5 teams brought together by Carbon13’s Venture Builder will be showcasing their climate focused ventures to the public for the very first time at our Community Input Days, pitching solutions such as:

  • Nanomaterials for batteries
  • Cyanobacteria for fuels
  • Direct Air Capture for atmospheric carbon removal
  • Digital twins for manufacturing
  • Data driven design for reducing embodied carbon
  • Machine learning for supply chain decarbonisation

Opportunity for start-ups in the built environment????

On Wednesday 19 July, at 12, there is a free event hosted by Barclays Eagle Labs to share more information about their upcoming sustainability bridge programme. The programme is designed to bring together larger businesses with startups through a series of modules to share core strategic thinking and best practices to help transform various aspects of the retrofitting challenge for the built environment – including financing, energy, efficiency, development, deployment and data.

Munich event - 27th of June

??Thank you to everyone who joined at Plug and Play Munich. Founders got a chance to explore how to assess their climate impact and leverage it for fundraising as well as opportunities to network with other industry leaders and build connections.

  • Tierra Foods?have been accepted into the?remove accelerator, the first European accelerator program focused solely on accelerating carbon dioxide removal (CDR) companies.
  • Sun Bear Biofuture?(formerly Sun Bear Bioworks), completed the Startlife accelerator, were selected for the?MassChallenge AgriFood accelerator?and received a SMART award from Innovate UK. They also received a?bio-based materials and manufacture grant.?
  • Bravely Cultured?have secured the Transformative Technologies grant from UKRI
  • Agreed Earth?were accepted to the Google's Sustainability Accelerator - 10-week equity-free accelerator program for Seed to Series A startups focused on climate change.?

  • Kelly Price spoke on?Agreed Earth's?nitrogen approach during a Future of Farming Net Zero event facilited by Countryfile's Adam Henson at the Royal Three Counties farm show.
  • The Battery Recycling Company?were at the Business and Trade Committee meeting examining the UK’s strategy around batteries for electric vehicle manufacturing, at Frontier Deep Tech's panel to discuss "Solving Climate Change with Deep Tech" and Attended and held a booth at Plug and Play's Mobility Expo.23, sponsored by JLR and Bentley.

  • Tierra Foods?have announced they will be launching their first food product in August.
  • Bluemethane?are building their demonstration unit and will leave their lab in July. It will remove their first tonne of methane and power over 100 homes locally in Rwanda.
  • The Battery Recycling Company?conducted a collaborative study with ThermoFisher demonstrating that they are able to recycle anode material for re-use in batteries at a recovery rate of >99%
