US Packaging EPR Update – Minnesota??- Some key deadlines have been set for the newly passed packaging and printed paper EPR framework in Minnesota. By 1st January 2025, producers must appoint a PRO and the organization must register with the commissioner by 1st July 2026.

Plastic packaging report finds gaps in companies’ commitments, actions?-

Berkeley, California-based non-profit organization As You Sow recently partnered with environmental solutions platform Ubuntoo to produce their “2024 Plastic Promises Scorecard," which ranks 225 global companies across 15 industries. One major finding of the report is a significant gap between companies’ stated plastic reduction commitments and actions taken to meet them. It says corporations have a vital role to play in tackling plastic pollution at its source and cites international plastic treaty negotiations and new extended producer responsibility (EPR) laws as demonstrating a shifting regulatory environment that holds manufacturers financially accountable for producing scrap.?

Textiles EPR in Latvia comes into force, 1st?of July 2024?- Textiles EPR comes into force in Latvia on 1st July 2024. Companies placing textile products onto the Latvian market for the first time need to either join a scheme soon or pay the Natural Resources Tax directly to the government themselves. Countries like Hungary, France, and the Netherlands have already introduced EPR laws and take back systems for textiles in recent years. Obligated textile products include clothes, household linen and shoes.?

Calls for UK EPR on textiles??- The Ellen MacArthur Foundation, a not-for-profit focused on promoting a circular economy, has called for a UK extended producer responsibility (EPR) scheme for textiles. According to the charity, an EPR scheme for textiles is “crucial” to funding a separate textile collection system that manages all discarded textiles, not “just the fraction of material that has a high reuse value”. In a report published this month, the foundation explained that an EPR policy for textiles will place the responsibility on producers for the collection, sorting and recirculation of textile productions.??

More Than 80% of Companies Say They're Not Ready for ESG Regulations?- New ESG regulations are taking hold in the EU, but most businesses feel underprepared to meet mounting sustainability standards. A new study from global intelligence and cyber security consultancy S-RM revealed that a whopping 84 percent of Europe-based corporations and 82 percent of regional investors don't feel confident in their ability to comply with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), which was signed into law last week.?
