STEP UP TO A GREEN START UP

Step Up 2 A Start Up national youth entrepreneurship development programme was launched in 2014 with the aim of creating a culture and mindset of entrepreneurship in South African youth. Research has shown, that by exposing youth to entrepreneurship, we can equip them to become job creators, contributors to the economy and give them the skills they need to uplift themselves from poverty.?

The programme focuses on making youth aware of climate change, encouraging them to accept environmental responsibility and teaching them how to identify entrepreneurial opportunities in the green circular economy. It is both a theoretical and practical based project, including a national youth entrepreneurship challenge (competition), business model adjudication, pitching and allows the winners to gain recognition through the awards. Since inception, it has benefitted over 90,000 youth and 3,000 teachers from over 1,200 schools in low-income communities. The aim is to exponentially increase this impact to promote confidence, leadership and transformation.
