Hi folks,
June is flying past. The rebrand took a lot of my time and energy, but that's ok, I am glad Obnatus is up and running. I can now focus on more marketing activities to grow my coaching business.?
One theme that keeps coming up for me this month is 'burn out'. Whether it is because I spend a lot of time working, or whether it was speaking to colleagues and friends. It is a much wider theme than you might think.?
And often we don't know how it is creeping up, the work, the stress, the uncertainty. That's when we need help, and should seek help. But how to avoid it?
1. Set Boundaries?- it's important to set boundaries between your work and your personal life. You must be able to turn your phone off. A healthy WLB (work life balance) and routine associated with it, is something I work with a few clients on.
?2. Self Care?- whether it is to take breaks, have a hobby, exercise or get a massage or relax in some form of way. Sleep is a biggie in here, we often tend to forget. Recharge your batteries to be more resilient and better equipped to handle stress.
3. Say No - don't take on more work. Learn how to say 'no' to clients or your boss. I ran a workshop for GE on that topic a few months back. The main question I pose is "I am happy to take on more work, but what other work do you want me to de-prioritise"? 4. Breaks - we are not machines. Regular breaks throughout the day, a nap at lunch time or a dog walk. Whatever works for you, make it a habit.?
5. Seek Support?- do not ever hesitate to call on a friend, family or colleague when you feel down, stressed or worried. The next step up would be a coach or therapist, depending on the symptoms. As a matter of fact, hypnotherapy is a great tool to combat stress.
The following picture was taken at a recent Numan event. David, my podcast co-host, and I were at the event, representing Man Up / Man Down . We also spoke to lots of likeminded people that want to improve men's mental health and men's physical health.
As of above, self-care isn't only about physical health but also mental health. To avoid burn out, to better cope with stress. My routine ensures I am fit at all time, and I notice when things get too much.
That's probably all I have to share this month. I hope it is useful and that you enjoy the ongoing Euro 2024 football championship. In a Scottish-German household living in England, you can pick your favourite as the tournament goes along. To be honest, I popped down to Tesco last week during the England match and got my shopping done in half the time ;-)
Stay well,
Volker
