A better way to protect your company against ransomware | Many backups fail to recover. We fix that.
Did you miss it?
Backups are something easy to forget about.? Until you have a crisis, of course.? On the best day, your backups run, and do what they’re supposed to do.? But what if it’s not the best day?
How not to back up
A recent survey of 300 IT decision makers by hosting provider Backblaze (Link to Article) had some concerning results.? First of all, more IT leaders indicated they backup to a Cloud Drive (84%) or use a Cloud Sync (70%) vs Cloud Backup (64%).? But what’s wrong with this picture?
A cloud drive is simply an attached hard drive somewhere else.? It works just like a hard drive on your local network.? But that’s the problem!? If you experience file corruption on your local drive, and it copies to your cloud drive, the corruption will copy as well.? And it can replace yesterday’s uncorrupted version of the file so you don’t have a path back to good.?
What about cloud sync?? Services like Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Sync are very convenient for distributed work teams.? But they can’t be your primary backup strategy.? Why not?? As with cloud drives, cloud sync will faithfully copy corrupt files to your cloud storage.? And if you delete a critical file on your local drive, it may delete on the cloud drive as well, leaving you in a precarious place.? A British company went out of business this way.? They terminated a senior employee but forgot to delete her password and access.? She went home and on a day off logged in and deleted every file from their Dropbox for Business account.? The owner spent over $100,000 trying to recover his files but they were gone.
