80 years ago on June 6th, 1944 our fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers strapped on their boots, grabbed their M1s, and stormed the beaches of Normandy, France to begin the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe. Mostly in their teens and twenties, these men chose to solve the harder problem and fight the worst of humanity this world has ever seen head-on. 2,501 Americans died that day - part of the over 400,000 American service members who gave their lives throughout the war.
If you are a Millennial or Gen Z, you may know them as grandparents or great aunts and uncles, but these men and women were young once - the difference being they were called upon to save our nation and world at large, and losing wasn’t an option.?
Take a moment today to imagine what you would be doing if today were June 6th, 1944. Where would you be as an 18-year-old American???
There’s a reason you and I have the freedom, opportunities, and lives we lead today. Without the Greatest Generation’s men and women, we would not be able to wake up every day and do what we love, pursue our passions, and chase our dreams. It’s not always perfect or fair, but we have a shot, and that’s something to be grateful for!
I’ve been blessed to work alongside the wonderful folks of Memoirs Of WWII since 2021 as we aim to tell remaining World War II veterans’ stories and publish them in a YouTube mini-series for current and future generations to watch and learn.?

Having spent my career thus far in the digital space, we each have a responsibility to stand for what we believe in, respect one another, and continue to fight the good fight in the digital world and beyond.?
Today, much of what our grandparents fought so hard to abolish is once again rearing its ugly head. Unfortunately, digital platforms often serve as the modern medium to spread hate and harmful disinformation. We have an obligation to do better - we must do better!
We’ve come a long way, but there’s still work to be done, and we must remember those who came before us and sacrificed so that we may be free today!
Below you will find Onofrio “NoNo” Zicari’s story from D-Day 1944 produced by Memoirs Of WWII . I urge you to give it a watch, share it with your friends and colleagues, and reflect.

9 个月Thank you for sharing this Maxim Fisher! It's so important to keep the story alive and to reflect on it to avoid the same mistakes as a society. Both of my grandparents were imprisoned in concentration camps in Spain during that same time under Franco's dictatorship. Last summer my family was invited to their hometown 50km away from Barcelona to commemorate all concentration camps prisoners and victims. My grandparents were able to escape/set free, and exiled in Argentina, where they had my mother. The picture is from the memorial event, where my mum gave a speech as the daughter of ex-prisoners in her own parents' natal dialect, catan.

Nan would randomly fire off these incredibly captivating stories, perhaps not realizing their significance, and family members would pull out their notepads and make every effort to write it all down. It's so important to capture these stories while we can, from veteran and civilian alike. Great work ??
