Tamil Economic Future at Davos, Switzerland

This month, I attended the The RISE Global Summit in Davos, Switzerland. This experience enabled me to reconnect with my heritage and engage with fellow Tamils from around the globe. The summit addressed crucial topics related to the personal, cultural, social, and economic well-being of Tamils and explored ways to enrich the societies in which we live. I discussed the readiness of Tamil-owned businesses for globalization and how we can harness our community's collective strength and wisdom to create opportunities that transcend borders.?

While at RISE, I also had the privilege of presenting a speech titled "Going Global with 369 Global ." In it, I discussed our vision for expanding globally this year, highlighting advancements with Computek College and the launch of 3 magazine . Connecting with the international Tamil diaspora was a truly enriching experience, affirming my belief in the potential of diaspora communities to drive positive change. At 369 Global , we believe in harnessing Canada's diversity and the insights of individuals from various cultural backgrounds to understand and meet the diverse needs within our communities.

The Globe and Mail Panel: Housing and infrastructure for a growing population

Earlier this month, I was privileged to participate in The Globe and Mail 's panel discussion on "Immigration, Housing, and Infrastructure - Can Canada afford to keep growing?" We debated whether immigration should be slowed down and reassessed or continued at unprecedented levels. It was an honour to share the panel with The Honourable Hassan Yusseff, Senator and former president of the Canadian Labour Congress - Congrès du travail du Canada ; Anna Triandafyllidou , Canada Excellence Research Chair in Migration and Integration at Toronto Metropolitan University ; and Cathie O'Toole , Chief Administrative Officer of Halifax Regional Municipality , as we offered our perspectives on this critical issue.

While I acknowledge the need to address fundamental issues to accommodate immigration, we must not overlook its significant benefits. Canada's history is deeply connected to immigration, and I firmly believe we must continue on this path to avoid falling behind. Much of the developed world now relies on immigrants to address an aging population, low birth rates, and labour shortages in essential services. Canada needs to reframe immigration as an opportunity, not a challenge. Our multicultural society is our greatest strength, and by leveraging our diverse communities, we can enhance global trade relations and strengthen our economy for the prosperity of all Canadians.

Century Initiative Board Appointment

This month, I was elated by the announcement of my appointment to the Century Initiative board! As an immigrant to Canada, I am a passionate advocate for Canadian immigration; I am deeply honoured to contribute to the vital work the Century Initiative provides to newcomers. They are dedicated to fostering a robust and forward-thinking immigration framework that meets Canada's demographic and socio-economic needs while supporting newcomers' successful integration and well-being.

I am eagerly looking forward to the opportunity to collaborate with my fellow board members, who each bring a unique set of skills and perspectives to the table. Together, we will strive to enforce sustainable and inclusive initiatives that drive significant change, thereby ensuring Canada continues to be a vibrant, diverse, and prosperous nation. I hope to positively contribute to shaping the future of immigration in Canada and working towards a stronger, more inclusive society.

Tamil Venture Zone Startup Pitch Competition

This month, we were proud to host the Tamil Venture Zone Startup Pitch Competition at 369 Global 's offices in Ajax, presented by the @Canadian Tamil Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the Canadian Tamil Professionals Association and Good News Ventures . This event showcased innovative startups and promoted entrepreneurial growth within the Tamil community. Eight dynamic entrepreneurs pitched their ideas to an audience that included notable industry leaders, investors, and community members. As the title sponsor, 369 Global had the honour of presenting the first-place award to Anderson Petergeorge, CPA of @Quanto, along with a prize of $5,000, congratulations!

Computek College Graduation

This month, Computek College College held its largest convocation to date, celebrating over 300 graduates from the Class of 2024 (Summer) in Scarborough. The graduates were joined by their families, friends, faculty, staff, and several distinguished guests. I am incredibly proud of our graduates and wish them all the best as they advance in their careers.

I also want to extend my gratitude to the Hon. Jill Dunlop , Ontario's Minister of Colleges and Universities, who recorded a video to share with the graduates. Along with Hon. Vijay Thanigasalam , Associate Minister of Housing; MPP Patrice Barnes ; His Worship Frank Scarpitti , Mayor of Markham; Councillor Juanita Nathan ; Durham Regional Councillor Marilyn Crawford (she,her,elle) ; and our employment and community partners, including Scarborough Health Network , VILLA KARUNA HOME FOR SENIORS and Tri-County Mennonite Homes, who attended in person. Thank you all for coming to celebrate the achievements of Computek's 2024 graduates!

Embassy of the UAE Visit in Ottawa

This month, I had the privilege of visiting the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Ottawa alongside Mark Radha to support the upcoming launch of 3 magazine . His Excellency Al Raqbani was a gracious host, and we engaged in productive discussions about the magazine and its vision.
