June 2024 News & Updates

As we stand at the crossroads of change and opportunity, I am excited to lead McKnight’s Vibrant & Equitable Communities team in our work to advance a future with shared power, participation, and prosperity for all Minnesotans. Together, we’re building pathways to greater opportunity, fostering collaboration with a diverse community of partners, and expanding McKnight's capacity to advance our highest expression of mission at the nexus of climate action and racial equity.

This work is about rolling up our sleeves, working side by side, in and with our communities, and creating opportunities that touch real people and real places. We're here to make a difference, to collaborate widely and partner deeply, and to push for lasting people-centered change.

Take a look at the redeveloped Historic Coliseum Building on Lake Street in Minneapolis featured in our recent story below. It’s a testament to the progress we have made and the hope that fuels us. It’s a beacon that illuminates what is possible in our region and serves as an inspiration to the world. As we heal, repair, and reimagine, let us do so with the knowledge that we are leaning into this moment as an opportunity to create a legacy of vibrancy and equity that will resonate for generations to come. It's about healing, fixing what's broken, and building a future that's bright for all of us. That's our hope, that's our mission, and I'm proud to be part of it.

Equitable, community-centered redevelopment is bringing new life to East Lake Street. On Juneteenth, 2024, The Historic Coliseum Building in South Minneapolis reopened with a new, inclusive purpose. The Black-led reconstruction of the former Freeman’s Department Store is a co-inspiration at the intersection of shared ownership and sustainability. See the story.
