• ERM Energetics has announced?that a deal has been signed for?Energetics to be acquired?by ERM,?the world’s largest specialist sustainability consultancy. ?
• CleanCo Queensland has signed an agreement with Orora for the?long-term supply of renewable energy to Orora's aluminium?can?manufacturing facility in Rocklea, Queensland. ?
• Following on from presenting at the parliamentary enquiry into innovation and value in the food and beverage manufacturing industry in Australia, CEO of Veolia Australia and New Zealand , Dr Richard Kirkman, has highlighted the opportunities and benefits of adopting waste-to-energy to divert waste from landfill. ?
• DETA has announced a new partnership with ESG Strategy, a respected sustainability consultancy led by Lee Stewart , which aims to?drive sustainability efforts across New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific region. ?
• The Australian Meat Processor Corporation is investigating the possibility of lifting meat?freezing temperatures from -18 C to -12 C in a bid to save energy in processing plants, storage warehouses and along the cold chain. ?
• EECA (Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority) has shared a case study on?how McCain has slashed emissions at its large Timaru, NZ, processing site by 93%. ?
• ARENA has released a report, Flexible demand - The current state of play in Australia, which was produced by the UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures . ?
• 博思格 has investigated the technical feasibility of renewable energy and decarbonisation technology pathways that have the potential to decarbonise the steelmaking process at Port Kembla Steelworks. ?
• Thanks to the Energy Efficiency Council and RACE for 2030 , recordings of many of the presentations and panel discussions from the recent 2024 EEC National Conference and Industrial Decarbonisation Summit are now available to view online. ?
• You can watch the recent Green freight while you wait webinar from MOV3MENT and the QTLC which looked at how you can decarbonise your freight while waiting for EV costs to come down.

Grants and funding news

Applications have been extended for the NSW Metering Plan?Implementation Grants. NSW businesses can apply for up to $100,000 to cover up to 50% of the project costs?of installing an energy metering and monitoring system. Applications now close 29 July 2024.?Learn more.

Applications are still open for any Victorian site that uses 10 TJ to 100 TJ of fossil gas annually. Up to $60k ($66k for regional areas) will be granted for electrification feasibility assessments. Learn more.

Closing soon - Queensland Manufacturing Energy Efficiency Grants -?QLD-based manufacturers can apply for matched funding grants of $5,000 to $25,000 to increase energy efficiency measures to reduce energy usage and costs and?reduce emissions. Applications close 30 June 2024. Learn more.

• Former NSW Treasurer, Matt Kean, has been named the new Chair of the Climate Change Authority.
• The CEFC has made a $30 million financial commitment to support Team Global Express, one of Australia’s largest multi-modal transport and logistics operators, to accelerate the electrification of its truck fleet. ?
• JBS Australia's Scone facility's?bioenergy system is officially in operation?utilising?on-site biogases for energy which will?reduce the site's annual CO2 emissions by around 23,000 tonnes.
• A new study commissioned by Agora Industry examining?the technical potential of electrification to generate process heat has found?that large heat pumps and electric boilers can already deliver industrial-scale process heat at temperatures needed for paper production, various chemical processes and the food industry. ?
• The federal and West?Australian governments are jointly investing $70.5 million over five years to establish Australia’s first TAFE Clean Energy Skills National Centre of Excellence in WA. ?
• Arnotts is?installing a 4.95MW/11MWh solar and storage system at its Huntingwood, NSW, biscuit factory.
