Toys ‘R’ Us Technology Nightmare?

Toys ‘R’ Us has recently faced significant backlash after debuting its latest ad, “The Origin of Toys ‘R’ Us,” at the Cannes Lions Festival. The ad which was created using OpenAI’s new video generation tool, Sora, was supposed to reimagine how the brand came to be by depicting a dream of founder Charles Lazarus. While some praise the iconic company on its technological innovation, many feel that it missed the mark.?

The ad highlights the weaknesses of AI showcasing a plethora of errors and visual inconsistencies.?

?Another criticism is that many fear that AI is going to replace creators' jobs threatening employment across the industry. This begs the question: is technology able to replace creativity??

LinkedIn Influencers Debut at Cannes?

The use of Influencers is not a new phenomenon, however, when people typically think of Influencers, they view them as more consumer-facing. LinkedIn is changing the game by highlighting the importance of B2B Influencers. For the first time, LinkedIn covered both lodging and flights for Influencers to attend this year's Cannes Lions Festival. In exchange, creators spent the week creating content and collaborating with the platform.?

The goal of this initiative was to help LinkedIn position itself as more than a jobs network, but rather an educational platform. Instead of selecting Influencers based on number of followers, the platform focuses more on the type of content that they post. Stay tuned to see how LinkedIn continues to integrate Influencers into their marketing plan.?

TikTok Brings in Reinforcement?

In the ever-evolving TikTok saga, the platform recently appointed two cybersecurity firms to evaluate its U.S. data security. The platform announced its partnerships with HaystackID and OnDefend, claiming that they will act as “Independent Security Inspectors.” This is the platform's latest ploy to appease U.S. legislators who are looking to enforce a ban. Will this help TikTok garner more favor from the government or is it too little too late??

If you are going from 'dreamlike' I don't think the Toys 'R' Us ad is all that far off the mark. Most of the dreams I have are at least as weird and shifting on the periphery as this! But it would have worked better for a brand with more weird in its DNA. The perceived dehumanization of the creative process itself is another thing, and indeed worthy of critique.?
