ICO warns of fines for companies who do not get cookie banners right.

We spotted an article by law firm Mischon de Reya that quotes Stephen Bonner, Deputy Commissioner, indicating the ICO will monitor organisations' cookie compliance on their websites. From our travels around the web, we know there are many organisations who haven't applied the rules properly - so now is the time to review what you have in place and make sure it's compliant: having a 'reject all' button on a cookie banner that is just as prominent as an 'accept all' button helps people to more easily exercise their information rights. The ICO is closely monitoring how cookie banners are used in the UK and invites industry to review their cookie compliance now. If the ICO finds that cookie banners breach the law, it will seriously consider using the full range of its powers, including fines. The full article can be read here.
