June 2022 in review ?? - London Tech Week special
Hello! I wanted to use June’s update to break down some of the most exciting things that happened across the UK tech ecosystem during London Tech Week. Two things are certain: as a UK tech sector, we have plenty to celebrate despite market jitters - and still plenty more work to do!
??The UK is now second place globally for tech investment after the US - see our latest report
On Monday 13th June, we launched our latest UK tech ecosystem report with Dealroom, which revealed that the UK has received record levels of investment in Q1 of this year (raising £9bn, up from £6.3bn last year).?
As the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer pointed out in his post about the report, these first three months of 2022 have put the UK second globally for startup investment, after the United States and ahead of both India and China for the first time.
?? UK tech job opportunities hit a 10-year high - see our latest report ??
We had more good news as our People & Skills report revealed that UK tech job opportunities have hit a 10-year high, with nearly 5 million people working in UK tech today, and tech salaries at a staggering 80% higher on average than salaries for non-tech jobs!
The UK Government releases its new digital strategy.
Also, during London Tech Week, the UK government launched an ambitious and empowering Digital Strategy , which rightly centres around Levelling Up, upskilling and international expansion.?A brilliant piece of work by everyone at the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sports, bringing together many elements from various Government departments.
?? Excited to be launching our Growth Platform to help scale more companies in more places via community, content, connections and more!
Excitingly, we launched Tech Nation’s highly anticipated Growth Platform for UK tech startup and scaleup leaders during London Tech Week. We already have over 1000 ambitious tech startups and scaleups join the platform; which provides personalised content, masterclasses, support and a closed network for scaleup leaders.
Working with companies through our growth programs over the years (including over 33% of all tech unicorns ever created in the UK), we're so far identified over 900 scaling challenges (such as entering marker or preparing for IPO). If you’re part of the leadership team at a tech startup or scaleup, I cannot recommend enough that you sign up to build your knowledge and networks, enabling you and your team to solve challenges, save time and accelerate your scaling journey. Feel free to watch this video to find out more!
?? More UK companies than ever have set their sights on the global market
Recently, we were excited to announce the companies who have been accepted into the third cohort of our International Growth Programme 3.0 (for Australia and Southeast Asia). We had our in-person launch during London Tech Week, followed by a drinks reception thereafter, with over 300 delegates from the APAC region in attendance. You can find out more about the incredible companies here , and watch the video of the launch event here !

I also had the chance to speak on the opportunities in the region for UK tech at the UK-APAC conference, organised by the Department of International Trade.?
Our Visa team also had a busy week at London Tech Week, speaking to Brazilian, Estonian, Australian and Singaporean delegations in the capital.
In this video , our Global Talent Visa Lead Josh Winfield shares his thoughts and experiences of the week, provides insight into applying for the Tech Nation Global Talent Visa, and explains why there has never been a better time to work, start or invest in a tech company in the UK.

More at London Tech Week
We were fortunate enough to attend Founders Forum London 2022, where a curated group of top-tier entrepreneurs, CEOs, investors and politicians came together to discuss topical issues in technology, including the role for tech in supporting Ukraine featuring a live address from President Zelensky via hologram. You can watch a BBC report on the event here plus a video by Founders Forum here .
The same week, Startup Genome launched their Global Startup Ecosystem Report , which showed London tied second place with New York in their annual global tech ranking.?
This set the tone for a week of innovation and exploration, as we came together as an ecosystem to discuss what we can do to continue growing the UK tech sector at a range of exciting panels and talks. Some of my personal highlights included:?
Dr Leslie Kanthan of TurinTech AI, Lorena Pulca of IamYiam and Sushma Shankar of Deep Planet share their experiences on our Applied AI Growth Programme during London Tech Week.
Framework’s Riya Pabari and The Body Coach’s Nikki Wicks speak on the importance of finding work-life balance as a tech entrepreneur.
