Jumping out of our comfort zones and into the ice for MND

Jumping out of our comfort zones and into the ice for MND

We celebrated our last day of work for 2022 by stripping down to our budgie smugglers, braving the cold and raising money for MND. It was a fun way to finish the year, and as you can see from the pics – both young and old got involved!

Whilst there were a lot of laughs and enjoyment on the day, the reality of MND is far from fun.?

Sufferers of MND progressively lose the ability to walk, talk, feed themselves, swallow and ultimately breathe. To make things worse, "in 90% of patients, MND occurs sporadically, and there is still so much unknown about the underlying biological pathways" - FightMND

It's a bitter reality for many, and Nathan and I have seen it firsthand as we lost our grandmother to the crippling illness when we were young.

For this reason, at Safetyline Jalousie, we plan some kind of "fun" activity for the team each year in conjunction with a fundraiser for MND Australia or FightMND .

In past years we’ve matched our Melbourne Cup outings with MND donations, rocked our FightMND socks and during covid restrictions, we didn't hesitate in purchasing FightMND beanies for the whole team and uploading our team shot to social media to secure our “virtual seats” in the annual Big Freeze event.

As for last year, we set up a fundraising page with Fight MND for staff to make donations, purchased a bunch of MND beanies and put forward the opportunity to the SLJ team to jump out of their comfort zone and into the ice.?

I was very impressed by how many accepted the challenge, and the kids especially enjoyed laughing at us while we struggled through the pain.

To top it off, we raised $1,120 on the day!

If you're interested to learn more about MND or want to donate, follow the link here: https://hub.fightmnd.org.au/diy-big-freeze-8/safetyline-jalousie and show your support. With at least two people diagnosed with MND in Australia EVERY DAY, they need all the support they can get.
