Jump into Spring with Some Evergreen

With Spring right around the corner, it’s time for some Evergreen…Evergreen Content, that is. Let’s start by defining Evergreen Content-- material that is always relevant, timeless, and sustainable—much like an evergreen tree retains its freshness all year, its vibrant appearance and appeal never withering.

There are many ways to create Evergreen Content, but for my business owners-turned-marketers, let's keep it simple and just start with one-minute videos: timeless, sustainable and relevant videos with content about your business that will never change. A natural place to start is to define your mission: what you do, how you do it, and why you do it.  Easy Cheesy! 

The beginning of your video is key. The average view rate on videos is 6 seconds, and the view-through rate is about 50%. If you get someone to watch your video for 15 or more seconds, consider that a SCORE!!! Make sure you are visually appealing in the first 3 seconds of your video. Plus remember we have to click to hear you, so make sure to include some sort of graphic or identifying marker. No pressure, right? 

Remember, Evergreen Content is timeless, so make sure to be intentional when you are creating your videos. Do you need everyone to see and like your videos? NO, but you do need to have the right people seeing your videos. Speak directly to your target market. Begin creating that relationship with them by allowing them into the heart of your business. 

Once you have your Evergreen Videos be sure to circulate them on your Social Media platforms throughout the year. At least one of your videos should be either boosted or circulating as an ad at all times.  Why, you ask? Well, studies show that approximately 15% will make a purchase after seeing your content one time, 18% when seeing your content 5-8 times and as low as 5% when seeing your post nine times. Where is the sweet spot? When social users see your content 2-4 times the likelihood of them making a purchase shoots up to 60%! 

The last tip for Evergreen Videos is DON’T BE ANNOYING! Here are some of the top annoying actions to avoid: posting too many promotions; using slang or jargon; not having personality in your video; and trying to be funny when you're not. Be authentically you. Your character will naturally draw in your target market.
