July Is Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month

Parents,?

Did you know that children can be diagnosed with arthritis, too?

July is Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month. At SpineZone, our goal this month is to help educate parents and other parental caregivers about juvenile arthritis.?

Approximately 300,000 children in the United States have juvenile arthritis. That is an estimated 1 in 250 children who are affected by some form of juvenile arthritis. According to The Arthritis Foundation, juvenile arthritis “takes a unique physical and emotional toll on kids, often resulting in debilitating pain and feelings of loneliness or depression. JA can make it especially challenging for kids to say Yes — Yes to playing, Yes to hanging out with friends, Yes to spending time with family, Yes to being a kid!”

Here are some of the signs and symptoms that your child may incur if you suspect they may have juvenile arthritis. Please consult with your child’s primary care physician if any of the following symptoms occur:?

  • Joint pain
  • Swelling
  • Fever
  • Stiffness
  • Rash
  • Fatigue (tiredness)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Inflammation of the eye
  • Difficulty with daily living activities such as walking, dressing, and playing

Your child’s primary care physician will know how to best diagnose and treat these symptoms if they occur with your child. While these symptoms do not guarantee a diagnosis of juvenile arthritis, we encourage you to open the discussion of any discomfort or onset of these symptoms with your child’s doctor.?

If your child has been diagnosed with juvenile arthritis and could benefit from physical therapy/rehabilitation, nutrition, mindfulness, sleep, or HABITS counseling, please visit www.spinezone.com to learn more.?
