Artist Picks

This month we hear from London-based Taiwanese illustrator An Chen on some of the things she's been enjoying recently...

BOOK:?Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman

"This is my favourite book recently. It's about time and how we should use it; specifically about recognising that we only have a limited amount of time in our lives, and when we choose to spend our time on A, we inevitably have to give up B and countless other things. Therefore, it's important to carefully consider what kind of life we want and to choose the things that are truly worth doing and that we most want to do."?

EXHIBITION:?In the Eye of the Storm: Modernism in Ukraine, 1900–1930s at the?RA

"I’ve always been fascinated by Eastern European and Soviet modernist art. I enjoy incorporating their use of flat, abstract shapes and black shading into my own work. It’s a fantastic opportunity to see the details of these art pieces in real life."

RECIPE:?Lu rou fan?(滷肉饭)

"I love cooking, and one of the foods I miss most from home is braised pork rice. It’s a dish you can find at any local restaurant in Taiwan. This all-in-one rice bowl features pork belly flavoured with soy sauce and star anise. Give it a try if you’d like to sample something new at your dinner table!"
