July was officially the hottest month ever recorded with an average global temperature about 1.5°C (approximately 2.7°F) warmer than the pre-industrial period of 1850 to 1900.It surpassed the previous record set in 2019 by 0.3°C (approximately 0.54°F), according to the European earth observation agency.

Side note: researchers at Copernicus Climate Change Service and the World Meteorological Organization predicted it would - should we also ask them for lottery numbers?

More written in Financial Times article, July enters history books as hottest month on record.

One thing that tends to get overlook is the increased amount of spending due to health care costs in response to extreme heat. A report by Center for American Progress discusses this further using daily climate and healthcare utilization data from Virginia. The report talks about the healthcare costs of extreme heat, which it reports to be about amount to approximately $1 billion every summer when extrapolated nationally .

What did you last month to keep yourself healthy during the extreme heat (and not having healthcare costs)? Share in the comments below - I’d love to hear about it.

Applying The Lessons Learned From Wildfires To Maui And Other Crises

In the early days of August 2023, a wave of devastating wildfires wreaked havoc in the picturesque landscapes of Hawaii, with Maui bearing the brunt of nature's fury. The ensuing catastrophe not only tested the resilience of the island's inhabitants but also showcased the remarkable power of collaboration in times of crisis. Despite the events surrounding the Maui wildfire, the collective response and support demonstrated the unwavering human spirit.

The 2023 Maui wildfire stands as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of our environment and the pressing need for unity in the face of adversity. The story of this disaster is not just one of destruction (and still ongoing); it is a testament to the resilience and strength that emerges when communities, governments, and people overall come together. The collaborative response to this crisis showcased the true power of humanity in overcoming the challenges posed by nature's wrath. As we rebuild and heal, let the story of Maui's courage and collective spirit inspire us to face the future with unwavering determination.

More about this was mentioned in a recent interview of The Resiliency Initiative 's President and CEO, Andrea Davis . She was recently quoted in Forbes article sharing lessons learned from past wildfires to help support Maui's recovery.

It was an good article, as it connected and discussed the similar challenges faced in California (specifically in Paradise, CA) and now in Hawaii.

A key stand out for me is Andrea's direct quote about keeping a community focus and how it remains a connecting point for recovery ????????????

“Creating community hubs is a tried-and-true way for emergency responders to expedite recovery” - Andrea Davis
