Thank you for speaking up with us

With six out of seven seats of government in Gloucestershire changing hands, our county’s political make-up has shifted, reflecting the national change in government.

The new Labour government now needs to deliver on their plans for nature, as outlined in their manifesto, and all Gloucestershire MPs, across all parties, need to remember that the public care deeply about nature.

Together, in the run up to the general election, we made it clear that nature was a top priority.

Whether you took part in our Vote for Nature survey, displayed a poster, attended the Restore Nature Now demonstration, or spoke to your local candidates, thank you for speaking up for nature.

Throughout the election campaign, it became clear that people know that our natural world is in crisis and want politicians to make the bold and ambitious commitments to reverse the decline.

Our message to your newly elected representatives

“Dear newly elected Gloucestershire MPs, Congratulations on your victory in the general election. Remember, there is a strong call for action on climate and nature conservation. Immediate and ambitious steps are needed to protect our environment. We’ll be here from day one to ensure nature has a voice and to work with the new government for a greener future”

What’s next for nature?

The Wildlife Trusts have five asks we think the new government should prioritise in their first 100 days, click on each ask to read more:

  1. Deliver where the last government didn’t
  2. Kick off a review of the Environmental Improvement Plan
  3. Ensure changes to the planning system deliver for nature, climate and people
  4. Stop river pollution
  5. Get the farming transition back on track

We’ll continue to share the ways you can back nature, and we hope you will continue to join us in keeping the momentum for nature going.
