July -August Update | Ukraine Friends

We have been very busy during July and early August. With constant attacks on our Ukrainian cities and civil infrastructure occurring throughout this time, we have continued our efforts to support those who are most affected – children and families. The Ukraine Friends Team is here to update you on our recent accomplishments and to encourage you to keep assisting us in our mission to help the people of Ukraine.

From June to early July, our CEO met with the Ukraine Friends team on the ground to visit our warehouse in Lviv, which serves as the hub for receiving and distributing all humanitarian aid, and connect with partners across the country. During his time in Ukraine, Joe Sullivan delivered additional laptops to the children in the war-torn village of Moshchun in the Kyiv region. He also provided more IFAKs to Ukrainian defenders and held a meeting with the Rotary Club Kyiv, an organization that Ukraine Friends continues to assist with medical aid.

"When we came to Moshchun to deliver laptops to the children living there, I was left speechless when I saw the devastation caused by the Russian army. Almost every household had their house gates and walls covered in bullet holes, a result of the indiscriminate shooting by the Russian forces. It was evident that they wanted to ensure no one was hiding behind those gates," shared Joe Sullivan.

Introducing our latest partner for the laptop project: Revivn

Revivn is a hardware lifecycle management platform providing enterprises with a white glove, all in one software-enabled solution for managing and repurposing their IT assets. They make it really easy for companies to donate their used laptops to us, and deliver them to us fully reconditioned. We are thrilled about the commencement of this partnership, which will enable an increasing number of Ukrainian children to sustain their learning throughout this academic year. A fresh batch of laptops from Revivn has recently been delivered to our warehouse in Lviv, and we are on the brink of dispatching them to the affected children who would otherwise lack a device for their education.

Empowering Children Affected by Russian Invasion: Extension of the Laptop Project

The cost of war is felt by everyone in Ukraine, but the impact on children is the most heartbreaking. So many young people have lost a parent to the war, we decided to launch a special program just to support those children in their time of need. Our new Digital Wings program provides a way for those families to request a laptop for the child/teen be delivered to their home by one of our team. Our objective is to furnish these children with laptops that will serve as faithful companions in their learning, development, and communication with peers. We put these laptops directly into the hands of those who are enduring the traumatic experience of parental loss. If you know of any child in Ukraine that you think can benefit from this program, please share this link with them to apply for receiving a laptop.

Ukraine Friends gets featured in the WIRED Magazine

Ukraine Friends and our team member, Brett Velicovich , were featured in WIRED Magazine in July, highlighting his contributions in extracting stranded Americans who were in Ukraine when the war started. Additionally, he helped Ukraine Friends in evacuating and housing Ukrainian refugees, as well as delivering millions of dollars' worth of aid.

While the article focuses primarily on the supply-chain issues related to supporting the war effort directly, we have faced and overcome similar challenges when delivering pure humanitarian aid. Our team has become quite adept at shipping and assembling medical equipment for first responders and laptop computers for use by children stuck in remote learning. It is not easy to get these resources into the country and we are grateful for our donors providing the resources for us to prioritize delivering humanitarian aid and for our team on the ground in Poland and Ukraine responsible for overcoming these logistical challenges. And many thanks to Brett for leading by example!
