Commitment to Community

BNIM celebrated exciting project milestones with our clients and communities this summer, from grand openings to new project kickoffs. These projects reflect a commitment to community, each uniquely embodying the purpose behind all of our work at BNIM — to inspire change and enhance the human condition. We are proud to be partners in designing meaningful spaces to elevate the positive impact of these organizations in their communities.

Thelma's Kitchen

Revealing Strength in the Kansas City Community

Reconciliation Services (RS) and Thelma’s Kitchen, hosted a celebratory grand re-opening to the community this July at the corner of 31st and Troost Avenue in Kansas City, MO. RS has served the urban core of Kansas City since 1987, driven by dignity, community, and advocacy to address needs for affordable food access, safe gathering spaces, and building positive connections.?

BNIM began our work with RS with a design charrette in 2012, followed by community visioning workshops and a master planning process in 2016. This work led to BNIM's collaboration with RS on the transformative renovation and stabilization of the organization’s 115-year-old building, representing a reinvestment by RS in its programs, neighborhood, and history.

Grace Presbyterian Church

Responsible Stewardship

BNIM is working with Grace Presbyterian Church of Water Mill, NY, to complete visioning, programming, and concept design for a future renovation and addition of their existing facilities. Grace Presbyterian is a congregation on the East End of Long Island, which held its first service in 2007 at their current location. Since this time, the congregation has grown and is in need of an updated space to serve their community into the future. Their vision is to advance their mission through responsible stewardship of their property, support growth, provide for safety and security, reflect the beauty of re-creation, and respect creation through responsible environmental, social, and economic design. The project is currently in its fundraising stage.
