JULY 4th WEEKEND JOINT EFFORT TO REMOVE IMPAIRED DRIVERS MAKE ROADS SAFER IN ILLINOIS

?Schaumburg, IL, June 30, 2023 – On Tuesday, July 4, Americans across the State will gather in celebration of America's Independence Day. The Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists (AAIM) urges drinking celebrants to drink in moderation and know their limits. You can't drive safely if you are impaired. That is why it's illegal everywhere in America to drive under the influence of alcohol, marijuana, opioids, methamphetamines, or any potentially impairing drug-prescribed or over-the-counter. Driving impaired by any substance-legal or illegal- puts you and others in harm's way.?

In a special effort to prevent the deadly consequences of impaired driving, AAIM is joining the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and local law enforcement officials in Illinois to heighten enforcement and send a strong message that impaired driving often has fatal consequences.?

AAIM's DrunkBuster program pays $100 to motorists who report an impaired driver that leads to a DUI arrest. The program is in effect for all of Illinois on Labor Day weekend. Citizens are encouraged to report erratic driving to the police. " If you plan to party during the holiday weekend—and this includes on the water—be sure to designate a sober driver for the car or operator of the boat. Whatever you do, don't get behind the wheel if you've been drinking, said Rita Kreslin, AAIM Executive Director.?

If you see a drunk driver on the road, dial 911 and be a DRUNKBUSTER. You can save a life. It is critical to remember the importance of wearing your seatbelt; it is your best defense against an impaired or distracted driver.?
