Our July newsletter is here and with a fresh new look! While the weather might be a bit chilly for summer, our recent Summer Festival was a resounding success, and we have plenty of exciting events and updates to share with you.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this month’s edition.

Our Summer Festival was a huge success!

On Saturday 29th of June, Severn Arts celebrated a day of music and arts. ???? In addition to musical performances, the Summer Festival featured artwork from the Young Voices New Visions Exhibition at the Guildhall, Pitch Up at Arch 27 and poetry readings by young poets including the current and past YPL at Script Haven.? Young visitors also had the chance to explore the Severn Arts Music Box! A big THANK YOU to all our wonderful volunteers, musicians and artists for making the day wonderful.?

LINE UP is back for a bigger second-year!

Severn Arts are thrilled to present LINE UP 2024 at Malvern Cube on Saturday, August 24th , and Sunday, August 25th.?

Funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, this year's LINE UP 2024 promises to be an exciting event with headlining acts Richard Dawson and Shovel Dance Collective. The full programme features artists spanning from drone music to folk and even spoken word, ensuring there's something for everyone.?

Pitch Up

This June, Pitch Up took place with HOW college students, preparing them for their careers as professional artists. Supported by Creative Mentors including Roz from Complex Simplicity and Gaby Songui, the students were prepared with the skills to pitch for commissions as professional artists. The artwork was available for the public to view at Arch 27.


BIG SING 2024

On June 21st, we held our annual Big Sing event for KS2 pupils from schools across Worcestershire, bringing them together for a joyful day of singing and music. A heartfelt thank you to all the schools that participated, as well as the dedicated volunteers who supported us throughout the day.?

Calling aspiring music reviewers

Young Reviewers in The Shire (produced by Ledbury Poetry) are on the lookout for aspiring music reviewers to review a performance at the Three Choirs Festival 2024 in Worcester. Reviewers will receive free tickets, and free mentorship and their reviews published on The Shire website and social media pages. Reviewers must be aged between 16-30 and live in either Herefordshire or a neighbouring county. For more information email [email protected]

ReNew Grants is open for applications

We are pleased to announce that the second round of ReNew Grants is now open for application.

Grants of £500 - £2000 are available, for creative activities for people aged 16 and over, targeting areas in Redditch Borough or Bromsgrove District.

Groups applying for activities at?Heritage Open Days in September are encouraged to get their application in by Monday 22nd July?for a quick decision. All other applications not related to Heritage Open Days should be in by?Monday 2nd September.

Community Makers Reimagine Redditch

£50,000 OF FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR COMMUNITY MAKERS AWARDS

Reimagine Redditch?are offering 5 x £10,000 awards to enable 5 co-created projects which bring together Redditch Artists and Community Organisations to collaborate on their own event, or series of activities which culminate in their own showcase event, by the end of March 2025.

So whether you want to see a carnival, make theatre, browse an exhibition, develop a nature trail, or just see more activities in your community – this is your chance to be funded to create the Art you want in your community.

Light Up The North are thrilled to launch their brand new Artist Directory - to showcase the work of national and international artists. If you are an artist and would like to feature your work, register on their website and add your artwork information (specification, image, cost, contact details etc). Guest Artists at the Artist Studios Bevere Gallery

Artist Studios at Bevere welcomes Malvern-based multi-award winning textile and mixed media artist Lesley Brankin who has a passion for mark making, both in paint and stitch. She is also a member of Creatives Connect Malvern. Lesley is looking forward to showcasing her work and having the opportunity to meet and chat with visitors.

Artist Studios at Bevere welcomes Anthony Carroll, a Worcestershire-based artist working in watercolour and drawn in particular to time-worn objects and water. Anthony will be exhibiting a range of his original watercolours and a selection of mounted Giclée prints.

Open House at Worcester Arts Collective Open House

To celebrate Worcester's hosting of the Three Choirs Festival, Worcester Arts Collective will be open from 11am – 6pm every day at 4 Edgar Street, Worcester WR1 2LR.

Artspace at Number 8 Community Centre

Artspace are excited to announce their next exhibition at Number 8 Community Arts Centre in Pershore, running from July 25th to August 17th, 2024.

Artspace is an inclusive group which meets once a week during term time at St.Helen's Church, Worcester between 10.00am and 2.00pm. It is free to anyone interested in the creative arts. We've been meeting together now for over five years.

Struggling to balance parenting with your professional creative practice? You are not alone!

Join Noah Kilworth, actor/writer and father of twin boys aged 5 for a fun activity-based workshop. Participants will have the opportunity to use drama games and exercises to explore thoughts and feelings relating to both the challenges and joys of working in the arts and parenting.

Changing Places Awareness Day

Changing Places are specialised accessible toilets for those who need extra equipment and space to allow them to use toilets safely and comfortably.? To raise awareness of Malvern Theatres' Changing Places Toilet, we have a host of fun, accessible craft activities on offer for the day, as well as an immersive sensory studio, charity stalls, and tours of the facility.?

Lights, Camera...Paint Collage Workshops with Artists Clubhouse and Worcester Film Festival.??

Tickets are free and include all materials

This year we are able to offer two free workshops as part of our Lights, Camera...Paint Art Trail. Come along and have a go at making your own movie mashup poster with us using collage and mixed media.

All materials are supplied so all you have to do is bring yourself. Suitable for older children, teenagers and adults. Children should be accompanied by an adult to support with any cutting and sticking.

2025 Events at Script Haven


Apr 13th 2025

Our dedicated children's literary?festival, Curious Minds, launches Sunday 13th April and will run to Friday 18th. All events will be drop-in pay-as-you-feel to ensure engagement is as stress-free and accessible as possible. There will be exciting activities and events for all children up to age 16.

May 30th 2025

Our brand-new, exciting and enticing summer festival, Alchemy of Words, will run Friday 30th May to Saturday 7th June. We have already booked some thrilling and inspirational performers and events so watch our socials for previews as we get closer! We are aiming?to bring something very different to our festival for Worcester and are hard at work collaborating with various groups to make sure this happens.

Sarah Taylor Silverwood,?Wild Imagination, Croome

Jul 19th until Mar 2nd

Wild Imagination?(2024) is a new animation and accompanying soundtrack by artist Sarah Taylor Silverwood made in collaboration with young people from Pershore High School and Riverside Youth Centre commissioned by Meadow Arts and National Trust.

The project is part of a wider collaboration between Meadow Arts and Croome which sees both organisations working with young people from Pershore to make creative responses to landscape, nature and heritage spaces.??

This project is generously supported by the Tony Brooks legacy and public funding from Arts Council England and The Elmley Foundation.

Summer of Play, Croome

Jul 20th until Sep 1st

Inspired by our Pages from Nature theme, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the publication of the Hortus Croomensis, families will have the opportunity to creatively explore the biodiversity that helps our plants thrive.

There are three main play areas and an exciting programme of activities and special events including nature-based and creative workshops with our Summer of Play artists in residence Hipkiss & Graney, a?Wild Imagination?Drawing Day with Sarah Taylor Silverwood (Thursday 8 August), weekly Forest school workshops and sessions with Nature Makers for those with younger children. Our Summer of Play will culminate with a special day of games devised by Hipkiss & Graney on Saturday 31 August.

?Masterclasses with Dancefest

Jul until Dec 2024?

Dancefest are presenting a series of Masterclasses with artists we admire and are inspired by. They're inclusive workshops for every body and every mind. Our first two Masterclasses are with incredible artists Rosemary Lee and Maiya Leeke.

We're also planning work with Pell Ensemble and Stopgap. Keep a very close eye on our social media and website, or sign up for our eflyer, to see when each are announced and booking opens. There are limited places and we think they’ll be popular!

Our Masterclasses are supported by Keep Moving. Keep Moving is produced by FABRIC, generously supported by United by 2022, as part of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Legacy Enhancement Fund through West Midlands Combined Authority.

An interview with artist Ali Pretty of Kinetika

Dancefest have been working with Kinetika, to make beautiful silk flags for Worcester Carnival Parade.

Founded by artist Ali Pretty in 1997, inspired by her training in carnival arts in Trinidad and India, has an unrivalled reputation for working with local communities on projects that change the way people feel about where they live.

Ali is an inspiration to anyone thinking of or already working in the arts, so we asked if we could interview her, so we could share her story. We think you'll enjoy Ali's story too.

Just Be You at the Arches

JUST BE YOU IS BACK!!???

British Theatre Guide called Just Be You "a sweet, warm-hearted show with a positive message for its young audience" and we're so excited to be bringing it to The Arches Worcester 9 / 10 August and the Royal Shakespeare Company Open Stage 11 August.

It's perfect for ages 3-11 years but everyone is welcome. We encourage dressing up and glitter but feel free to come as you are.?

Tickets for both venues are free but must be booked in advance - get all the details below.

Worcester Fringe Festival

Jul 19th until Aug 3rd

Local arts festival the Worcester Fringe is back and producers of the festival say, “it’s all about bringing fantastic and inspiring cultural events to the city". With over 20 performances across 16 days, this year’s Worcester Fringe promises to be just as jam packed with events as ever.

From Friday 19th?July to Saturday 3rd?August, audiences can expect a mixture of dark, thoughtful, and political plays, with lighthearted, hilarious and touching performances, music, poetry, cabaret and more.?Founded and produced by Worcester Theatres, the Worcester Fringe was established in 2021 and this year they are bringing the festival closer to home, with most performances taking place in the Swan Studio, at local venue the Swan Theatre.
