Commemorations Bursary Scheme open
Applications are welcomed for this?Royal Irish Academy (RIA)?grant scheme, funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media , until?Friday, 9 August at 5pm.
The Commemorations Bursary Scheme has been established to encourage and support new local research and local history studies relating to the commemoration of events associated with the early years of the State as well as other significant historical anniversaries, events and themes across the island of Ireland. Tracking a Plant Killer: Historical and Scientific Reflections on the Irish Famine Pathogen
Join us on?Tuesday, 20 August at 6pm for a dynamic public lecture that spans the disciplines of history and science.?Fullbright Scholar, Professor Jean Ristaino will visit the Royal?Irish Academy to deliver a talk exploring the migrations and spread of the pathogen Phytophthora infestans which entered the shores of Ireland in 1845 and devastated the potato crop.
