July 2024: Redactions, Reactions and Updates!

California Redactions:

In the last few months, we have kept you informed about changes happening in Los Angeles County regarding the removal of dates of birth (DOB) from their public access terminals, kiosks, and website. San Luis Obispo has recently started redacting DOBs as of June 21st, requiring clerk-assisted verifications. Similarly, Orange County (California) began redacting DOBs from public access as of July 1, 2024.

These changes imposed by the courts are affecting all Consumer Reporting Agencies (CRAs) and their turnaround times. To help mitigate delays and reduce potential extra fees, we have implemented measures such as having our own network of researchers directly access court clerks for record matching verification and where possible we are leveraging automation to quickly close cases, enhancing efficiency in our procedures.

As these regulatory changes could impact your hiring processes, we recommend that you inform your candidates of potential delays that may occur in completing their background checks specifically in the counties of Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo, and Orange. In-House Court Runners: Accurate has placed OUR OWN court runners in several courthouses to expedite turnaround times. For example, we are currently seeing turnaround times of 1.11 days for Cook County, IL and 1.32 days for LA County, CA. Problem counties? What problem counties?!
