July 2024 Newsletter

July 2024 Newsletter

As we enter the month of July, A New Leaf remains committed to serving anyone, regardless of their circumstances. This month I want to spotlight Vincent, a man who deserved a second chance to make his life better. Your kindness and generosity gave Vincent the ability to get back on his feet.

Vincent’s journey started with a challenging childhood, supporting himself through two full-time jobs. One day during a shift, Vincent made a mistake, and got into an altercation with a coworker. In an instant, Vincent was incarcerated. When he was released, he faced a whole new set of challenges.

Vincent was left without a place to call home, and faced the stigma of being a disabled ex-convict. After researching his options, Vincent reached out to A New Leaf’s Freedom Through Housing program, and was able to find the shelter assistance he needed. He also found a loving community ready to support his journey towards stability and self-sufficiency.

At A New Leaf, we believe in the dignity of every individual, no matter what their background is. It is because of your commitment that stories like Vincent’s are possible. Your support continues to break down barriers and foster an environment where everyone has the opportunity to succeed and thrive.

In this month’s newsletter, you will find even more ways to help your neighbors in need, just like Vincent. Your commitment to helping your community is truly admirable.

Thank you for your unwavering support.

Sincerely,

Joe Dulin

Chief Philanthropy Officer

A New Leaf

July 2024 Impact News: Vincent Found A Place To Call Home!

Vincent has faced a lot of challenges in his life, but he’s always been a self-reliant, hard worker. He got through a tough childhood and ended up working in construction as soon as he left High School. Vincent never let his disability get in the way of his ambition and hopes for a better life.

“I was doing everything I could to improve my life. I didn’t want to live the same way I had grown up. But unfortunately things didn’t turn out that way, because of a dumb mistake.”

At only 18, Vincent got into a fight with a coworker while working on a construction site and was arrested. It was his first real run in with the law, but the sentence came in harsher than expected. He ended up in prison for several years.

“Coming out of prison, I had a lot of challenges to overcome. I’ve always worked in factories and construction, but it wasn’t easy to find a company that wanted to hire me. Not only does no one want to interview me because I have a history now, I’m also a disabled ex-convict with one arm. It’s messed up, but it’s true.”

Knowing this, Vincent reached out to every program he could find to help him succeed when he left prison. It was around this time that Vincent got connected with A New Leaf’s Freedom Through Housing program. Here, a dedicated case manager would help Vincent plan for his life after prison and connect to resources.

“The people at A New Leaf are just incredible, they’ve helped me turn my life around. I’ve gotten help finding housing, getting a job, and so much more. I don’t know where I would be without this program.”

Vincent knows that he deserves a second chance at building a meaningful life for himself. After several years of working on himself, he’s ready to live a normal life again. With a new job, a new apartment, and more, Vincent is well on his way.

“I’m proof that you can change. If you give people like me the chance to prove what we’re capable of, we’ll surprise you every time. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and I know my life will only get better from here.”

A New Leaf invites you to make a direct impact in your local community by making a donation of items. Your gifts will help those facing homelessness, domestic violence, and other crisis situations.

A New Leaf wants to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Mulders, a wonderful couple that has been giving to A New Leaf for years! They gave a generous donation of denim quilts to A New Leaf’s shelter programs just two weeks ago. The Mulders have been consistent supporters of our mission, and their latest gift is going to go directly towards those who need it most.

The Mulders’ donation of handmade denim quilts brings comfort and warmth to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, transforming our shelters into cozier, more welcoming spaces. These quilts carry a personal touch of kindness that resonates deeply with our residents, and are all made out of recycled material. Each quilt helps to provide a sense of security and home, crucial elements for those in transition and working towards rebuilding their lives.

We are profoundly grateful for the Mulders’ continued kindness and support over the years. Their contributions have had a significant impact on the community, providing warmth and care to thousands of people across the Valley.
