Project Highlight: Power Cable Replacement Glenalta to Belair

In December 2017, we successfully converted half of the section to the new cable, ensuring seamless operations for ARTC and DPTI without disrupting train services.

Key Deliverables:

* Replacement Scope: The 650V power distribution cable from Glenalta substation to Belair station.

* Route Details:

Glenalta substation to location 1913: Approximately 700 meters, involving transitions between orange HD conduit, galvanised steel conduit (GST), and buried services.

Location 1913 to Belair station (Location SSI BL1): Approximately 1635 meters, with several transitions between GST and buried services, crossing key infrastructure such as Main Road and Old Belair Road.

Innovative Solutions: Utilised existing conduits where possible and ensured minimal disruption with strategic under track crossings (UTX).

Our team’s dedication to efficient and high-quality work continues!

Electrifying Rail: The Future of Sustainable Transport in Australia.

A new report from The Conversation reveals: Transport Emissions: Australia’s transport emissions are projected to only decrease by 35-45% from 2019 to 2050 due to increased travel and slow adoption of electric trucks.

Electric Rail: Electric rail is the most efficient land transport mode, potentially reducing emissions by 80-90% from 2030 onwards.

Mode Shift: Shifting from road to electric rail for both passenger and freight transport can significantly cut emissions.

Challenges: Barriers include outdated railway infrastructure and the need for more high-speed electric passenger trains.

More Products from MW Engineers! Manufactured Duplex Lock Box.

Duplex Lock boxes are utilised to provide high level electro-magnetic lock security protection, associated with points and level crossing operations.

Where points are located in advance of the MLI, a Duplex Lock will be provided (released by Operators/Safeworking Key and releases key for the frame or single lever).

Operation of the Duplex Lock will place the MLI to stop to qualify the level crossing approach.

Reclearing of the MLI to occur under two conditions as follows:

When the Duplex Locks are restored and the track circuits are clear, (i.e. the train has left or is wholly within the loop).

When the Operators push button is pressed.

High quality unit, constructed from 316 stainless steel, engraved inner door.

MW Engineers - Test Switch Box

MW Engineers manufacture this product for ARTC in New South Wales for safer operation of Level crossings in the State.

A test switch shall be provided to enable the highway signals, the half-boom barriers, the warning bells and warning lights (each where fitted) to operate directly from the standby power supply, with the main supply switched off.

Using the test switch box the level crossing shall be operated and the power supply indicator (PSI) alarm lights shall be observed

Before leaving the level crossing the signalling maintainer shall ensure that the crossing is fully operational and that nothing has been left switched off, disconnected or unlocked including battery chargers, test switches and emergency switches.

Kiwi Rail News - Major investment announced for lower North Island commuter rail!

The NZ Government says it will allocate more than $800 million to upgrades on the Wairarapa and Manawatū rail lines.

The upgrades would include doubling peak services on both lines and additional off-peak services, shortening travel times through increased speeds and purchasing 18 four-car trains, totalling 72 cars.

Transport Minister Simeon Brown said it's part of an agreement with the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA), KiwiRail, and the Greater Wellington and Horizons Regional Councils to deliver more reliable services for commuters in the lower North Island.

"The current aged locomotive-hauled train fleet operating on the Wairarapa and Manawatū lines is reaching the end of its service life and is in critical need of replacement after years of under-investment and frustrating delays for commuters," said Brown.

GWRC and Horizons would contribute $71 million to the project.
