???SEC approves new cyber reporting regulations for public companies
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) voted 3-2 to adopt?new regulations?that require publicly traded companies to report cybersecurity incidents to the government and disclose cybersecurity risk governance details in public filings.
Companies must notify the SEC and the public?within four days of determining a cybersecurity incident?will have a "material" impact on their business. The disclosure should include information on the incident's nature, scope, timing, and likely impact on the company's financial conditions and operations.
Overall, the new regulations aim to enhance disclosure and transparency regarding cybersecurity practices for investors, but they?may create compliance burdens, especially for smaller companies.
