This is a really great read on the History of Classical Rome. Highly analytical, it goes well beyond a basic history text. Particularly interesting is the analysis of the development of the Roman political system and how it evolved over its first 1,000 years. Many of our governance structures today owe their political roots to the Romans...and even more interesting is that they struggled with many- would almost say most- of the complex issues we deal with today. This book is also useful for straightening out all those Roman names you hear on Jeopardy!
