July 11th Meeting - MEM IMC Club - Via Zoom

The objective of The Memphis IMC Club is to help each of us became a safer and more competent instrument pilot.

Here’s the flight plan for the?Tuesday, July11th, 7 PM CDT?meeting of The Memphis IMC Club, via Zoom.

No Mechanic. You own a well-equipped 2004 Baron. In just a couple of weeks, you plan to take your Baron and family to the Bahamas for a long overdue vacation. Vacation has been rescheduled several times because of "fires" at the office. Your family is losing their patience. This time--you promise the trip is "on" regardless of what happens at work.

This morning you ran by the airport to update navigation databases. Your longtime mechanic greeted you with news that he was closing his shop effective immediately. Tired of the “rate race” of trying to find help and never-ending supply chain issues. To complicate things, you’ve got maintenance that's due before this trip.??

What do you do?

Between A Rock and A Hard Place. You work for a part 135 charter operation in Arizona. You are flying a Baron from Tucson International (KTUS) to Socorro, NM, (KONM) where you will meet a medical crew. Most likely you will be returning to Tucson with a cooler carrying organs for transplant. It’s summer monsoon season and thunderstorms are everywhere.

As you start the RNAV 33 approach into KONM, you watch a new thunderstorm cell form behind you. There are rain shafts to the west, and ahead of you. It’s relatively clear to the east, but that's all restricted airspace. As you turn the corner onto the final approach course, you fly into light turbulence and virga. Suddenly the Baron jolts with a few quick bumps and starts losing altitude. Visibility drops to near zero and the rain and turbulence increases. Airspeed fluctuates +/- 15-knots. You are having trouble controlling the airplane.

What do you do?

FAASTeam WINGS credit will be available - 1 credit for Basic Knowledge Topic 1.

There is?NOT a membership requirement?to participate in meetings. Just an?interest in becoming a safer, more competent instrument pilot. And there are?NO DUES!

Look forward to seeing at the?Tuesday, July 11th, 7 PM CDT, meeting of The Memphis IMC Club!
