Julahaa on the role of Sarees in Indian Heritage

Sarees have been a popular traditional attire in India, not only because of the socio economical and cultural ethos but also because of the geological and health benefits they carry. Irrespective of the fashion trends, Sarees have always held a sacred space in every woman's wardrobe. With most Indians finding their way back to their roots, have you ever questioned how have sarees managed to remain fashionable across all these centuries?

5 factors that have contributed to the popularity of Sarees:

Comfort

The primary criterion for assessing a garment's likeability is always its level of comfort. Due to its drapability, the six-yard saree is incredibly comfortable to wear. Additionally, the market offers too many options, allowing women to select sarees in any fabric. A saree adds to the femininity of all body types and can be worn in any shape or silhouette, allowing the wearer to move freely.

Tradition

Irrespective of the religion that Indians follow, wearing a saree to celebrate any festival is still considered customary in India. Draping this beautiful 6-yard-long piece of fabric as a part of celebrating our festivals is a common practice for Indians in India or even abroad. Each culture has a unique method for draping a saree. Aside from drapery, every culture has a unique significance for the selection of colors and fabrics.

Recently Ms. Neena Kulkarni was showcased spreading the message of love and living the festive spirit by sharing the weave of India.

Versatility

The most adaptable clothing item is the saree, which can be worn as a skirt, lehenga, or another type of drape, or it can be accessorized with blazers, pants, palazzos, dhotis, and other items. Sarees are also becoming everyone's favorite because of the rise of fashion bloggers, who have given women more confidence to try new things.

Variety

There are about 100 different weave, fabric, and production process variations of Indian sarees. The most well-liked varieties are Bandhani, Chanderi, Banarasi, and Kanjeevaram silk sarees. In addition to the conventional shifts Indian fashion designers have succeeded in modernizing the saree, giving it a place in the closets of younger women. We have a lot of saree options today, including ruffle sarees, pre-stitched sarees, and saree gowns.

Influences of celebrities

Globally, social media has a significant impact on everyone's choice in clothing. From celebrities to political leaders, women of India choose to display their strength and grace by draping this beautiful garment - each in their own unique way. These famous actresses have frequently cited sarees as their go-to attire, inspiring many of their fans to do the same.

I think every generation would agree that the sari is a garment that, despite current trends, will always be in style!
