Judo words, how well do you know them?

This article is an interview with the author of a new judo book Ms. Nu?a Lampe , the director of the Judo club Golovec .

You are a recognized expert in judo. You have been working in judo for over thirty years. As a 6th DAN master of judo, a former competitor, international referee, judo instructor, and judo manager of the International Judo Federation Academy, you have poured your many years of knowledge into a book. What prompted you to do this?

My new book?JUDO BESEDE –?TUDI V JAPON??INI IN ANGLE??INI (orig.) includes professional judo terminology that is consistent with the terminology of the Kodokan Institute in Tokyo. Until now, we have not had professional literature in the Slovene language with judo terminology, which would cover the field in a fun and at the same time instructive way. Now it’s time for that too, which makes me very happy.

It is an educational and at the same time entertaining book, also a coloring book for children.

The book is actually for everyone, regardless of their gender, race, ethnicity, religion or other belief, disability, sexual orientation, and age. For young judokas, because they can also paint it, for pupils, teenagers and for their parents. It is also a great tool for judo teachers and trainers. I collaborated with the Italian illustrator, former martial arts athlete, Sergio Trama , to design this booklet. Together, we were able to bring the judo words closer to the reader through 46?cheerful illustrations?through a sympathetic and instructive story.

What will readers learn from the book?

Readers will learn 112 most common Judo words in their mother tongue and also in Japanese and English along with the rules of conduct that need to be adopted in dojo. In addition, they will learn the principles of judo, which are: fairness, accessibility, and respect for others. Judo is more than just learning and using combat techniques. It is a comprehensive and wonderful system of physical, intellectual, and moral education. It has its own culture, system, legacy, habits, and tradition. To understand and internalize all of the above, it is necessary to know and understand judo terminology.

In addition to Slovene, the book also presents Japanese and English terminology of judo, how come?

In designing the content and presenting it to the reader, I relied first on Slovene judo words along with Japanese, as they are used uniformly in judo all over the world. To this, I added the translation into English, because nowadays it is necessary to know and understand this global language as well.?

Judo is a way of life. And in order to understand and internalize it, it is necessary to know and understand its terminology as well.?        

Will the book be translated into other languages?

I am thrilled that the booklet has already been translated into other world languages. Italian and Bosnian are currently available, others will follow. Please, do not forget! The purpose of the book is to acquaint readers around the world with judo words in their native language along with Japanese and English translations.

The book contains the foreword by the International Judo Federation Academy. What does this mean to you?

The foreword by IJF Academy Director, Mr. Envic Galea , 8 th DAN judo master, means a lot to me. You know, the IJF Academy is actually the first official educational institution of any sports federation in the world working in the field of judo education. I’m their proud alumna.

Nu?a Lampe is a 6th DAN IJF judo master and the director of the Judo Club Golovec from Slovenia. In her more than 35-year career in judo, she was a multiple national judo champion and a member of the Slovenian national team. She has competed in one Senior and two European Junior Championships. She is a university graduate organizer and a university graduate trainer of martial arts. She has also successfully completed her studies at the IJF Academy in two fields: Judo Instructor and Judo Manager. After finishing her competitive career, Ms. Lampe started working as a judo instructor in the Judo Club Golovec and as a referee and a professional firstly within the Slovenian Judo Federation (JZS) and later at the international level. She is the first female international referee in Slovenia and the first female appointed Vice-President of the Slovenian Judo Federation (JZS). In addition to the above, in recent years she has participated in various expert commissions of the JZS and was a member of the organizing committees of European and world championships organized in Slovenia. She finds it a great honor to have participated in the organization of the Judo Tournament at the 2012 London Olympics.
